The Pokémon Mansion journals are a series of diary entries written by a Pokémon researcher (possibly Dr. Fuji) chronicling the events that led up to the creation and escape of Mewtwo. They are scattered around the Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island, the only remnants of the research that went into Mewtwo's creation.

A young Mewtwo growing in its test tube on New Island in the anime. The events of the opening segments of Mewtwo Strikes Back and The Birth of Mewtwo are heavily based on the Cinnabar journals.

The following texts are the diary entries as they are in the games. Interestingly, the texts were altered for the localizations, with instances of the first-person singular personal pronoun I (Japanese: わたし watashi) in the original Japanese texts changed to the first-person plural personal pronoun We. In the February 6^th diary entry, the localizations added the pronoun We to the text, whereas the original Japanese text is impersonal. The September 1^st diary originally describes a more emerging danger and a nervous attitude towards it, whereas the localizations imply that, despite the danger being known, the people involved succumbed to helplessness of doing something about the situation.

Trivia

The Mansion journals can only be viewed in Generation I and Generation III as somewhere in between the time that these games and the Generation II and Generation IV games took place, the volcano on Cinnabar Island erupted, destroying everything on the island (apart from the Pokémon Center).
