A Pokémon Day was an annual event organised by Nintendo that took place in the Netherlands. It was originally held at a theme park, Avonturenpark Hellendoorn, and was moved to Walibi World in 2008. During each Pokémon Day (except for 2010), event Pokémon or items were given away. At every Pokémon Day there were several other things to do. You could test the newest Pokémon games, one could shop in one of the Pokémon Shops. They sold Pokémon Trading Card Game Booster Packs and other Pokémon products like plushies and Poké Balls. At every Pokémon Day one could view the newest movie.

In 2010 it seemed that the Pokémon Day was not held, because the same year Disney XD had taken over Jetix. At the last moment, two weeks before the Pokémon Day was held, it was announced on television.

In 2010, the last Pokémon Day was held. A Pokémon Day was planned on August 27 and 28, 2011 but cancelled because PS-Games, the sponsor and distributor of the Pokémon Day in the Netherlands, was declared bankrupt. The company saw the profits fall with 3,9 million euro to 5,6 million euro and was indebted with 2,2 million euro.

The official website of the Pokémon Day was http://www.pokemonday.nl/ *

A similar event is held in other countries as well.

Pokémon Fan Days 2006

Pokémon fan days were being held in the TV Toys Museum organised by RCV Entertainment, Jetix Magazine, PS Games and Nintendo on May 25, 26, 27 and 28, 2006.

You could get Deoxys, watch the Dutch premier of Pokémon: Destiny Deoxys, play a demo of Pokémon Trozei! and take a picture with Pikachu. There was also a swap meet for all sorts of Pokémon merchandise, on May 28 the Open Nederlandse Kampioenschappen Pokémon Kaartspel (Open Dutch Championships Trading Card Game) was held. The three winners (in different age groups) would go to the Pokémon World Championships in the United States.

And you could choose three Pokémon from a list of ten Pokémon (Lugia, Ho-oh, Entei, Latios, Latias, Charizard, Articuno, Raikou and Pikachu) that could be downloaded to your Emerald, FireRed, LeafGreen, Sapphire or Ruby cartridge. You could wait in a long line to get it downloaded to your GBA cartridge or sent it to Nintendo. Demos of Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team could be played, Pokémon Trading Cards could be traded, a special Pikachu TCG promo card was given away and you could participate in a coloring competition with a drawing that could be download at the Nintendo site beforehand.

8,000 visitors were expected but 16,000 came. A segment of the show Kassa on Dutch public television (October 28, 2006) about the event featured complaining parents because of the crowds.
