Reason: Japanese names of each of the men

The Pokémon Center men are a quintet of non-player characters that appear in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald and Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. They are all located in the Mauville City Pokémon Center, however only one will be present at a time. They differ in the color of their hair and clothing.

Mechanics

Generation III

In Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald, the final digit of the player's Trainer ID number determines which of the five men will initially appear in the Mauville City Pokémon Center. The following list details which number corresponds with which man.

  • If the Trainer's ID ends in 0 or 1, the Bard will appear.
  • If the Trainer's ID ends in 2 or 3, the Hipster will appear.
  • If the Trainer's ID ends in 4 or 5, the Trader will appear.
  • If the Trainer's ID ends in 6 or 7, the Storyteller will appear.
  • If the Trainer's ID ends in 8 or 9, Giddy will appear.

If two or more players of Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire or Emerald mix records with each other, the men that were in each players' games will be transferred over.

Generation VI

In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, they give the player O-Powers. Giddy is in the Mauville City Pokémon Center when the player first arrives. After being interacted with twice, the Hipster appears.

They will only appear or give the player their second O-Power after the player has reached specific points in the storyline. If one of the men leaves the next won't appear until the player has reached the point in the storyline where he will give his next O-Power; if the player obtains the first O-Power but is not yet far enough in the storyline to obtain the second, the current man will remain in the Pokémon Center.

Man Interaction Requirement O-Power
Giddy 1 none Speed Power
Giddy 2 none Critical Power
The Hipster 1 unknown Befriending Power
The Hipster 2 unknown unknown
