The Pokémon Center Nurse (Japanese: ポケモンセンターナース Pokémon Center Nurse) is an operator of a Pokémon Center. They facilitate the restoration of Trainers' Pokémon to full health, and usually provide this basic service free of charge.

The nurses that operates the Pokémon Centers are usually not known to be named, except in the anime, in which the nurses are all named Joy. Occasionally, nurses with specific names do appear, such as Teala, and a nurse named Casey (Japanese: メディ Medi) who participates in Super Contests in Pokémon Diamond and Pearl. It is currently unknown if those names apply to any or all of the other nurses in the games.

In the games

A Pokémon Center Nurse operates every Pokémon Center in the Pokémon games, usually standing behind the counter and beside a machine which is able to heal the player's Pokémon to full health. The nurses are not known to be named and there is no evidence to support that they are related, unlike their anime counterpart. Since many characters in-game feature the same overworld sprites (the nurses included) it is impossible to tell whether or not these nurses all look the same.

In Pokémon Yellow, the Nurse appears under a different overworld sprite. She is more similar to the anime's Joy than in other Generation I games, and is even accompanied by Chansey in every center. Furthermore, an old news page from Game Freak on Pokémon Yellow suggests that her name is Joy (ジョーイ)—the same as in the anime. This seems to apply only to Yellow, as many aspects of Yellow are based on the anime.

In Generation II, the Nurse in Fuchsia City has green hair. It is unknown if this has any significance. Interestingly, there are multiple green-haired nurses in the second floor of all Generation II Pokémon Centers.

A nurse named Teala appears in every Pokémon Center of Generation III (second floor) and Generation IV (basement), usually giving information about Wireless Communication to the player. She manages the items the player obtains through Mystery Gift in Generation III.

In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, a nurse named Casey (Japanese: メディ Medi) participates in Super Contests with a Chansey nicknamed Pinky. It is unknown whether (and unlikely that) all nurses in the game are so named.

In Pokémon Black and White Versions 2, the player character's Mother used to be a nurse, outright stated by her during a Xtransceiver conversation. She has mentioned working at Nimbasa City and is implied to have worked at Mistralton City.

In the anime, Pokémon Centers are run by the Nurse Joys (Japanese: ジョーイ Joy, referred to as ジョーイさん Joy-san by most characters).

In Pokémon Origins

Pokémon Center Nurses made a couple of appearances during the Pokémon Origins mini-series, serving the same role as in the games. The first one was seen in Viridian City in the episode File 1 - Red, and another one appeared in Lavender Town in File 2 - Cubone.

In addition to Nurse Joy appearing, several generic nurses appear in The Electric Tale of Pikachu, first appearing in Clefairy Tale. Nurses appear in a wide variety of outfits, which vary from city to city.

In the TCG

A Supporter card called Pokémon Nurse appears in the Expedition Base Set. The art on this card slightly resembles Joy from the anime, but has blue hair. The nurse appearing on the card also seems to have been based on the games' nurse, since the TCG is based on the games, rather than the anime.

A second card, titled Pokémon Center Lady, was released in the Wild Blaze expansion, both as a regular print and a Full Art card. Both have illustrations of Pokémon Center nurses from Generation VI.

Pokémon Nurse/Pokémon Center Lady Cards listed with a blue background are only legal to use in the current Expanded format. Cards listed with a green background are legal to use in both the current Standard and Expanded formats.

Trivia

• When returning the player's Pokémon, the Nurse ends with "We hope to see you again!", causing many jokes to be made in the fandom about her wishing harm to come to the player's Pokémon so that he or she would return.
