Pokémon Card Game: How To Play DS (Japanese: ポケモンカードゲーム あそびかたDS Pokémon Card Game: How To Play DS) is a game which focuses on teaching players how to play the Pokémon Trading Card Game. The Beginning Set was rereleased on August 5, 2011, which contained the same cards as the September 2010 Beginning Set, but came with this game.

It has tutorials and a digital rulebook. After the player has completed all the tutorials, there are five different CPU characters to play against.

  1. ポケモンカードゲーム? Pokémon Card Game? - This tutorial introduces the main character, シユン Shiyun, and his friend ナナミ Nanami. Nanami introduces Shiyun to the Pokémon Trading Card Game and basic concepts like playing field layout, Coins, Damage Counters, and the like.
  2. バト ルしよ う! Try To Battle! - A guided tutorial of Shiyun's first battle with Nanami. They both use the Tepig Half Deck from the Beginning Set. The tutorial guides the player through setup of a match and introduces Active Pokémon, Benched Pokémon, Prize Cards, Energy cards and attacking.

Connectivity

Pokémon Card Game: How to Play DS supports Nintendo DS Download Play, enabling two players to play simultaneously using only one game card.

As this game is not DSi-enhanced, it will work on any console in the Nintendo DS lineup from any region, including the original Nintendo DS, Nintendo DS Lite, Nintendo DSi, Nintendo DSi XL, Nintendo 3DS and Nintendo 3DS XL.
