The Pokémon Beauty Contest (Japanese: ポケモンビューティーコンテスト Pokémon Beauty Contest) is an anime-exclusive Pokémon breeding competition held in Bonitaville. Pokémon Breeders enter their Pokémon, which are judged by their health and beauty. It was featured in Beauty and the Breeder.

Competition

The Pokémon Beauty Contest is an annual competition in which Pokémon are judged on their appearances. However, the event is not solely about how the Pokémon look, as the judges also decide the winner based on how well the Breeders have raised their Pokémon. It is known that at least 259 contestants took part in the competition.

During the event, contestants present their Pokémon before an audience. In order to prepare, they usually dress up their Pokémon in an original style using different accessories and props. There are also Breeders who don't feel the need to use clothing items, preferring to focus on grooming their Pokémon to make sure their fur looks good. The winning Pokémon is named "Beauty of the Year".

Brock and Suzie entered the contest as partners, with their Pokémon of choice being Vulpix. The two Breeders agreed that bringing out a Pokémon's inner beauty was the key to win, while their rival Zane, who entered the competition with his Ninetales, had a different opinion, concentrating his efforts on making a Pokémon beautiful on the outside.

A disguised Team Rocket also entered the competition, but attempted to sabotage it with their usual antics; first by trying to take the spot of the first entrant, and afterwards by trying to steal all the Pokémon in the competition.

In the end, Suzie and Zane realized they were both right, and decided to open a beauty salon where they could work together to make a Pokémon beautiful inside and out. The winner of the competition was not announced.

Trivia

  • The Pokémon Beauty Contest might be a forerunner of Pokémon Contests, which were introduced in the games in Generation III. During the first round of these competitions, Pokémon are also judged based on their appearances.
