In the Black & White, Petashi (Japanese: ペタシ Petashi), a boy wearing a Poké Maniac costume, appeared as a competitor in the quarterfinals of the Unova Pokémon League. In this round, he faces Cheren as his opponent, only to be quickly and easily defeated. Although Petashi congratulates Cheren for his victory, Cheren coldly ignores his praise and leaves to wait for his next match.

Despite this, Petashi keeps cheering Cheren on in his next match. He is soon approached by White, who asks him why he continues to support the one who beat him. Due to his inability to talk to girls, Petashi is immediately flustered by White's presence and runs off. After regaining some of his composure, he reveals that he wants Cheren to win simply because he lost to Cheren in their match.

During Black's battle with N, Petashi joins Cedric Juniper and Looker to assist their ally in battle. Since Cheren lost to Black, Petashi states that he wants to help the person who beat the person who beat him in battle. Although they attempt to attack N's Zekrom, it easily defeats their Pokémon and swats them away.

A Poké Maniac or PokéManiac (Japanese: かいじゅうマニア Monster Maniac) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that first debuted in the Generation I games. They were originally presented as strange boys with long hair who wear trenchcoats. In Generation III, they were changed so that they became cosplayers dressing up in beast-like costumes.

They tend to use Pokémon in the Monster Egg Group—such as Lairon, Lickitung and Charmander.

Notable Poké Maniacs

Bill and his father are commonly referred to as Poké Maniacs.

In Gold, Silver, Crystal, HeartGold, and SoulSilver, Kirk (known as Mania in Generation II), a Poké Maniac from Cianwood City, is well known for his arrogance. Hearing of this, Silver stole one of his two Pokémon, a Sneasel. Kirk begs the player to take Shuckie, his Shuckle, for safekeeping. Depending on how well Shuckie is treated, Kirk may or may not ask for Shuckie to be given back.
