This card was reprinted in the Base Set 2 reprint set, which was only released outside of Japan. This card was also reprinted in the EX Ruby & Sapphire and EX FireRed & LeafGreen sets with different artwork by K. Hoshiba; in EX Unseen Forces, EX Crystal Guardians and Diamond & Pearl with another different artwork by Shin-ichi Yoshikawa; and in Majestic Dawn and Platinum with yet another different artwork by Ryo Ueda. It was reprinted in the HeartGold & SoulSilver expansion with new artwork by Hideaki Hakozaki. It was printed with another new artwork in the Battle Starter Decks by Noriko Hotta. The card has seen its fair share of tweaks since its introduction, first in EX Ruby & Sapphire then in EX Unseen Forces and Diamond & Pearl print.

Release information

This card originated in the Jungle expansion with artwork by Keiji Kinebuchi. It was later included in the EX Ruby & Sapphire expansion, originating in the Treecko, Torchic, and Mudkip Constructed Starter Decks, with new artwork by K. Hoshiba and an updated effect. This print was used until the release of EX Unseen Forces, the Meganium, Typhlosion, and Feraligatr Constructed Starter Decks, which featured new artwork by Shin-ichi Yoshikawa. This print was used throughout the rest EX Series, and the first part of the Diamond & Pearl Series, up until the release of Majestic Dawn. The Majestic Dawn print, originating in the Magmortar vs Electivire Deck Kit, featured new artwork by Ryo Ueda.

Poké Ball was later reclassified in Japan as an Item card during the HeartGold & SoulSilver Series, though the English prints did not adopt this naming convention until the release of Black & White. HeartGold & SoulSilver featured new artwork by Hideaki Hakozaki, and the Japanese Battle Starter Decks featured yet another new illustration by Noriko Hotta. This card was released again in the Black & White expansion with new artwork by Yuri Umemura, originating in the Japanese Beginning Set. This print was later released in the Boundaries Crossed expansion in English, and in the National Beginning Set and the Everyone's Exciting Battle collection in Japan.

This card was reprinted again during the XY Series in the English Kalos Starter Set, first originating from the Japanese XY Beginning Set, with new artwork by 5ban Graphics. This print was later reprinted in the English XY Trainer Kit, and in the English Generations expansion, originating from the Japanese BREAK Starter Pack.

Poké Ball was reprinted again during the Sun & Moon Series as part of the Sun & Moon expansion, first originating from the Japanese Sun & Moon Starter Set, with new artwork by Ryo Ueda.
