Pikachu short: Difference between revisions

The Pikachu shorts are small movies that were originally shown at the start of the Pokémon movies, but expanded to fulfil other purposes too.

They feature only Pokémon almost exclusively, and chronicle miscellaneous adventures of Ash's Pikachu.

Categories of shorts

The shorts can roughly be sorted into the following categories:

• Annual shorts which aired theatrically together with a corresponding movie: PK01 with M01, PK04 with M02, PK07 with M03, PK11 with M04, PK12 with M05 and PK13 with M06.
• After the sixth movie, instead of releasing the annual shorts theatrically together with the corresponding movie, shorts were initially broadcast during the month of August exclusively on even numbered ANA flights: PK14 was released in 2004 (the same year as the seventh movie), PK16 in 2005, and since PK18 in 2006, every Pikachu short has been of this type, up until most recently PK22 in 2010.
• Three "Pikachu's Winter Vacation" Christmas specials were produced, consisting of two episodes each: PK02/PK03 in 1998, PK05/PK06 in 1999 and PK08/PK09 in 2000.
• Two shorts were released theatrically on their own under the "Pokémon 3D Adventure" banner, to demonstrate 3D cinema technology: PK15 and PK17.
• The episode PK10 does not really fit any of these patterns, however it was released in Japan together with the 3rd installment of "Pikachu's Winter Vacation" and internationally as part of Pokémon Chronicles. In addition, it does not feature Ash's Pikachu.
• The episode Pichu Bros. in Party Panic is nominally considered part of the Pikachu shorts series, however it is not part of the main series as it does not feature Ash's Pikachu.
