Pickup (Japanese: ものひろい Picking Up Things) is an ability introduced in Generation III. Nine Pokémon have this ability.
The ability was shown in the anime episode Showdown at Linoone and the manga chapter Find Munchlax!!.
Pickup has no effect during battle.
Outside of battle
Pickup allows the player to receive free items. After a battle, any Pokémon on the team that has this ability and is not already holding an item has a 10% chance of picking up an item. It can be retrieved through the normal means of taking a held item.
Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire
Abilities first appeared in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire. These are the items that Pokémon with this ability may pick up:
Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen
In Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the ability focused on Berries, which are not as readily available in Kanto as they are in Hoenn:
In Pokémon Emerald, the ability was changed to be affected by the Pokémon's level:
Pokémon Diamond, Pearl & Platinum
The only changes in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum were a few tweaks to the items received:
Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver
While mostly around the same basis as Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, a few tweaks were made for Pickup in HeartGold and SoulSilver. The changes include replacing evolution stones and a few TM's with different ones and adding in other new items as well.
