Trivia

  • Pelipper is one of the few Pokémon who experiences a stat decrease as a result of evolution. Its base Speed stat drops by 20 points.
  • Pelipper is one of the few Pokémon able to learn both Fly and Surf. The others who can learn both moves are Dragonite, Lugia, Latias, Latios, Rayquaza, Mew and Arceus. Of them, only Pelipper and Dragonite are not legendary.
    • Furthermore, Pelipper and its pre-evolution are the only Water-types able to learn Fly.
  • Its cry sounds similar to that of Deoxys's.

Origin

This Pokémon resembles a pelican.

Name origin

Pelipper's name is probably derived from pelican and skipper, a rank of sailor, or possibly "flipper" referring to its wings. It may also be a combination of "pelican" and "propeller", such as those used by submarines, due to its aquatic nature.

In other languages

  • German: Pelipper
  • French: Bekipan - From bec qui pend (beak that hangs). It also sounds like pélican (pelican).
  • Korean: 패리퍼 Pelipper
