VS. Altaria (Japanese: VS. チルタリス VS. Tyltalis) is the 226th round of the Pokémon Adventures manga in the Ruby & Sapphire arc.
Synopsis
Sapphire arrives at the place of the emergency meeting of the Gym Leaders: Fortree City. She has prioritized defeating Team Aqua ahead of Gym Battles. She sees a Pokémon Trainer on a branch with her Zigzagoon. Sapphire has Pilo use Magical Leaf, cutting the branch. Sapphire jumps to the ground and catches the Trainer and her Zigzagoon. The Trainer explains that she was on the branch because her Zigzagoon, Zigzag, wasn't behaving normally and wasn't moving off the branch. When Sapphire heals Zigzagoon with a Berry, the Trainer calls Winona there because she's realized who Sapphire is. Sapphire agrees to a Gym Battle.
Sapphire sends out Toro against Winona's Altaria. They exchange blows, then Toro is blown back by Altaria's DragonBreath. Toro and Sapphire hide in and climb up the trees. On higher ground, Sapphire and Toro jump out of the trees. Toro uses Double Team and kicks Altaria. They go down to the ground and Toro evolves into a Blaziken! It uses Blaze Kick, but misses. Sapphire realizes that Altaria is hiding in the clouds. Altaria uses Sky Attack, making Toro and Sapphire lose conciousness.
When Sapphire wakes up, Winona tells her that Altaria healed itself with Refresh. Sapphire realizes that in the sky, Altaria used Dragon Dance before Sky Attack to ensure victory. Winona offers to coach Sapphire, and Sapphire accepts. Then Roxanne, Brawly, Wattson, and Flannery appear for the meeting. Winona explains that the Gym Leaders have gathered to stop the awakening of Kyogre and asks Sapphire to help. Then Wallace and Ruby arive.
