[[Lt. Surge]] boards his submarine and goes underwater. He then finds [[Silver's Gyarados]] {{status|Freeze|frozen}}. He wonders whether it being frozen is linked to [[PS112|the appearance of many Gyarados]] three weeks prior. The Gyarados suddenly breaks the ice and begins to chase Lt. Surge's submarine. Lt. Surge sends out his {{TP|Lt. Surge|Raichu}} and has it charge the submarine's laser beam. Before he can fire, Silver's Gyarados swims ahead of the submarine and tries to release something else that is frozen. However, it soon collapses from fatigue. Lt. Surge, believing the {{adv|Gold|two}} {{adv|Silver|kids}} to be frozen inside, destroys the ice with the ship's laser beam and retrieves what was frozen, which turns out to be Gold's shoe, goggles, hat, and backpack, as well as Silver's shoe. Inside Gold's backpack, he finds Gold's [[Pokédex]].
 
Meanwhile, in [[Olivine City]], {{adv|Crystal}}'s Pokédex and [[Poké Ball]]s have been repaired. She plans to go to {{ci|Cianwood}} next by boat because none of her Pokémon can learn {{m|Surf}}. Seeing her Pokémon's despondence, she encourages them. Crystal then sees a pair of {{p|Pikachu}} ([[Pika]] and [[Chuchu]]) Surfing. She decides to try to capture them (because most Pikachu cannot learn Surf). Suddenly, Chuchu is thrown into the air. {{adv|Yellow}} appears on {{DL|Yellow (Adventures)|Dody}} and catches Chuchu. Yellow then realizes Crystal's identity and tells her that she has been looking for her.

Lt. Surge boards his submarine and goes underwater. He then finds Silver's Gyarados frozen. He wonders whether it being frozen is linked to the appearance of many Gyarados three weeks prior. The Gyarados suddenly breaks the ice and begins to chase Lt. Surge's submarine. Lt. Surge sends out his Raichu and has it charge the submarine's laser beam. Before he can fire, Silver's Gyarados swims ahead of the submarine and tries to release something else that is frozen. However, it soon collapses from fatigue. Lt. Surge, believing the two kids to be frozen inside, destroys the ice with the ship's laser beam and retrieves what was frozen, which turns out to be Gold's shoe, goggles, hat, and backpack, as well as Silver's shoe. Inside Gold's backpack, he finds Gold's Pokédex.

Meanwhile, in Olivine City, Crystal's Pokédex and Poké Balls have been repaired. She plans to go to Cianwood next by boat because none of her Pokémon can learn Surf. Seeing her Pokémon's despondence, she encourages them. Crystal then sees a pair of Pikachu (Pika and Chuchu) Surfing. She decides to try to capture them (because most Pikachu cannot learn Surf). Suddenly, Chuchu is thrown into the air. Yellow appears on Dody and catches Chuchu. Yellow then realizes Crystal's identity and tells her that she has been looking for her.
