Zinnia is surprised to be attacked by Sapphire after she had seen her disappear in one of Hoopa's rings. Zinnia assumes that since Sapphire is in Mossdeep City, she must have given the dimensional shifter to Professor Cozmo to help power the rocket. Believing Sapphire has the scroll that can teach Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza, Zinnia has Zinnia use Fire Fang on Rono. Rono falls back against the tree, crushing Sapphire, who had been standing on its back. When Zinnia realizes that Sapphire doesn't know about the scroll, she attempts to leave the battle and head for the rocket, but Sapphire tackles her down. Zinnia demands to know why Sapphire is so insistent on helping the company that drained the life force of her Blaziken, and through a hoarse voice, Sapphire tells her that she won't let Zinnia waste Chic's hard work.

Upon realizing that Sapphire has lost her voice, a memory appears in Zinnia's mind. In a flashback, a young Zinnia finds a burnt cape on the ground—the same cape that Zinnia wears in the present. Her voice wavers as she says Aster's name, then she finds herself unable to speak.

Zinnia snaps out of the memory when Rono attacks. Salamence and Rono continue to exchange blows, and Zinnia is surprised that Sapphire's Pokémon can understand her without words. Seeing their connection, Zinnia realizes that Rono had been with Sapphire when her Salamence had attacked her and Ruby as children.

A voice calls out to Zinnia, and Sapphire is surprised to see that she had brought reinforcements—two duos referring to themselves as the new Team Magma and Team Aqua. They introduce themselves as Tabitha, Courtney, Matt, and Shelly, and inform Sapphire that their predecessors shared the same codenames. Zinnia notes that Tabitha and Shelly had once worked together at the Devon Corporation, but grew tired of Mr. Stone's management over time.

It is announced that the rocket will launch in three minutes, and Zinnia hops onto her Salamence and flies away. Sapphire attempts to stop her, but is attacked by Courtney's Numel and Matt's Carvanha. Seeing that she doesn't have any time to waste, Sapphire whistles, summoning her Tropius, Troppy. She jumps onto Troppy's back, and they race to Zinnia.

Watching the launch from the Mossdeep Space Center, Steven, Mr. Stone, and Professor Cozmo notice a figure approaching the rocket. They are horrified to see that it is Zinnia and her Salamence. Zinnia locates the dimensional shifter and prepares to attack it, when she is suddenly hit by a Leaf Tornado attack. The rocket lifts off, and Zinnia is surprised to see Sapphire and her Tropius holding onto it. Zinnia demands for Sapphire to leave, but she attempts to reason with her. While Sapphire urges her to work together to save the world, Zinnia commands Salamence to attack. Sapphire watches in shock as Salamence's claw comes for her face.

With their path to Meteor Falls blocked by an energy field surrounding Groudon and Kyogre, Ruby and Emerald command Eon duo (Adventures) and Eon duo (Adventures) to try to open up a hole through it. The attack has no effect on the Legendary Pokémon, and Ruby realizes that their types must have changed in their new forms. A silhouette appears to them, confirming Ruby's theory. Maxie and Archie can suddenly be seen, standing on top of Groudon and Kyogre. They vow to teach the two Pokémon Precipice Blades and Origin Pulse, respectively, and Emerald becomes determined to stop them. He charges toward Groudon with Latias, but it swings its claw at them and knocks them away. To prevent Ruby and Emerald from stopping them, Maxie and Archie command Groudon and Kyogre to attack. The two Pokédex holders are caught in a powerful blast that knocks them to the ground and renders them unconscious. As Maxie and Archie turn away from them, they reveal that the reason they returned to Hoenn is to protect the planet.

Zinnia is surprised to be attacked by Sapphire after she had seen her disappear in one of Hoopa's rings. Zinnia assumes that since Sapphire is in Mossdeep City, she must have given the dimensional shifter to Professor Cozmo to help power the rocket. Believing Sapphire has the scroll that can teach Dragon Ascent to Rayquaza, Zinnia has Salamence use Fire Fang on Rono.
