Omanyte (Japanese: オムナイト Omnite) is a dual-type Rock/Water Fossil Pokémon.

It is resurrected from a Helix Fossil and evolves into Omastar starting at level 40.

Biology

Physiology

Omanyte has a large, pale yellow shell on its back. Its main body is sky blue with ten tentacles, two of which are longer than the other eight. Omanyte has saucer-like eyes. It uses the many gas-filled chambers in its helix shell to remain buoyant in the water column. It regulates its buoyancy by evacuating gases from compartments. Its shell turns into the Fossil that is used to resurrect it.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Omanyte learns several Water-based moves and a small handful of Rock-type moves.

Behavior

Omanyte swims by twisting its ten tentacles about. If attacked by an enemy, it withdraws itself inside its hard shell.

Habitat

The exact habitat of Omanyte is unknown even though there have been records of Omanyte hiding deep in damp caves, but so far Helix Fossils are only found in the Kanto and Sinnoh regions.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

Unlike its evolved form, Omastar, this Pokémon feeds on plankton in the wild.

An Omanyte was revived from a Fossil in A Gruff Act to Follow!.

An Omanyte made a small appearance in Dealing With Defensive Types!.

Three Omanyte appeared in Lucario and the Mystery of Mew living in the Tree of Beginning. One also appeared in the opening of the movie.

  • Omanyte is one of five Kanto Pokémon that had its base experience yield changed in Generation IV. Its former base experience is 120. The others are Abra, Machop, Geodude and Kabuto.
  • In Generation I, Omanyte is able to learn Spike Cannon, despite lacking any visible horns to use the move.

Origin

It is based on the ammonite.

Name origin

Omanyte is a phonetic anagram of ammonite, the creature on which it is based.

Omnite is a combination of オウムガイ ōmugai (nautilus) and ammonite.
