Growlithe first appeared in The Case of the K-9 Caper!. In that episode, Ash and his friends met up with an Officer Jenny who trained Growlithe to act as police dogs. In this episode, the many Growlithe helped fend off Team Rocket. A Growlithe owned by an Officer Jenny was also seen in The Fourth Round Rumble using a Flamethrower attack to shoot down Team Rocket's Meowth Balloon. In fact, most of Officer Jenny's Growlithe have been used in crime solving and serve as police dogs throughout much of the Pokémon world.

In Don't Touch That 'dile, Jenny's Growlithe was used to help locate a Totodile that was stolen by Team Rocket. One was also used to locate Ash's missing Egg in An EGG-sighting Adventure!.
