Muddy Water (Japanese: だくりゅう Muddy River) is a damage-dealing Water-type move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation IV, it was the signature move of Marshtomp and Swampert.

Effect

Generations III to V

Muddy Water inflicts damage and has a 30% chance of lowering the target's accuracy by one stage. Muddy Water hits both opposing Pokémon in Double Battles. In a Triple Battle, Muddy Water will only hit opposing adjacent Pokémon.

Muddy Water can also be used as part of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining extra two appeal points if the move Rain Dance was used in the prior turn.

Generation VI

Muddy Water's power was lowered from 95 to 90. In Horde Encounters, it will target all opponents. Muddy Water will also destroy stalagmites found in the background of battles.
