Morty (Japanese: マツバ Matsuba) is the Gym Leader of the Ecruteak City Gym. He hands out the Fog Badge to trainers who defeat him. He is apparently a young man who uses Ghost-type Pokémon.

Morty's name means "still water". However, it was most likely chosen because it contains "mort", which means death.

In the Anime

In the anime, he teaches classes on training Ghost-types. He knows that most Ghosts lack physical power, and relies on disabling his opponent by confusing or frightening them.

He aids in protecting the Towers of Ecruteak, and is a student of the legends surrounding them. As such, he has a close relationship with Eusine.

Ash was able to defeat him by relying on his Noctowl's Foresight to weaken his ghosts and make them vulnerable to conventional attacks.
