Mewtwo (Japanese: ミュウツー Mewtwo) is a Psychic-type legendary Pokémon.

It has a similar background to the Mewtwo that appeared in Mewtwo Strikes Back, but is a distinct, separate individual.

History

Mewtwo first appeared in SS026, in which it was revealed to have escaped from its creators and had started roaming the world looking for a home. It was hunted down by Danku, a Pokémon Hunter hired to retrieve it for its creators. However, Mewtwo proved to be too much for the hunter and after this, it helped put out a fire, saving the forest and its Pokémon as well as Virgil, Anna, and Oscar. Mewtwo, however, still felt distrust for humans and asked the group to forget their encounter, as it leaves for a place in the world to reside.

In M16, while wandering the world, Mewtwo encountered the Genesect Army, who were themselves lost searching for their home. After a brief conflict with the distressed Genesect, Mewtwo followed after them while they fled, ultimately arriving in New Tork City. Mewtwo then protected Ash and his friends from the rampaging Genesect and warned the Red Genesect leading the Army to stop. Unable to convince the Red Genesect to halt its rampage, a great battle erupted between the two.

Personality and characteristics

Mewtwo with Red Genesect

Though it shares some aspects of its personality with the previous Mewtwo seen in the anime, this Mewtwo differs in a number of key ways. It is far less harsh in its hatred of humans, instead merely distrusting them and wishing to be left alone by them. It also merely asks Virgil, Anna and Oscar to forget they met it as opposed to wiping their memories. This Mewtwo is able to sympathize and identify with others, as when it meets the Genesect Army, it insists that they go with it to a place where unnatural Pokémon should exist.

However, it is also capable of acts of great power, such as pulling all the water in a lake into the air to douse a forest fire and flying into the atmosphere.
