Crystal then tells Smoochum to use Mean Look and captures them both. Crystal then tells Chikorita that she is going to send both of them to Professor Oak. Chikorita shows discontent from this and signals he wants to join her. Crystal decides to test Chikorita by having him battle Monlee. Chikorita uses Razor Leaf and is shocked when Monlee punches the leaves away. Monlee then uses Mega Punch and breaks the ground. Chikorita manages to stay there while the ground starts to give way. When it stops, Crystal smiles and tells Chikorita that no Pokémon had ever taken Monlee's Mega Punch in the face before. She tells him that he has mega watts of courage and names him Megaree, adding him to her team. Since all of Crystal's team members have a star theme, Chumee gave him her star pendant.

When he finally got to Crystal, she caught it and a wild Victreebel that held it hostage, thinking it was a wild Pokémon. Mega became mad about this and insisted that he join her team, so Crys made him fight against Hitmonee, and due to his mega-courage shown when he withstood a Mach Punch attack, Crys decided to name him Mega, and took him along with her. Since all of Crys's team members have a star theme, Chumee gave him its star pendant.

Megaree instantly jumped into the battle after Archy was defeated out of rage from what Larvitar did and tackles it. Larvitar quickly gains the advantage, but is knocked out and captured once Megaree evolved into Bayleef.

In Lively Lugia II, Megaree fights against a wild Lugia and meets back up with Exbo and Croconaw. After a tiring battle with Lugia the three starters evolve into their final form due to the stress of the battle and the encouragement of the others. Gold then attempts to capture Lugia, but it escapes.

Mega evolved to Bayleef in Larvitar's Too Cunning when he battled the Larvitar that attacked Crystal's Arcanine in the past, while she was still a child. * Mega is the only one of Crystal's Pokémon whose nickname does not end with 'ee'. However, its Japanese name is Megapyon, and 'pyon' is the suffix applied to her other Pokémon's nicknames in Japanese.
Mandarin Chinese or Korean
* The amount of rounds that Mega took to reach his first evolution and final form are the reversal of Saur's progressions, another grass-type starter.

Megaree (Japanese: メガぴょん Megapyon), known as Mega in Chuang Yi's translations, is one of the Pokémon owned by Crystal in the Pokémon Adventures manga. Megaree debuted as a Chikorita in Murkrow Row as a cameo. He officially debuted in Three Cheers for Chikorita.

History

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

Megaree first appeared as a Chikorita in Murkrow Row, and was left on his own after Silver stole Totodile and Gold took Cyndaquil. He wanted to go on adventures with a Trainer. However, Crystal had no plans of adding new Pokémon to her team, and in Three Cheers for Chikorita he ran away from the lab to convince her. He soon finds her on Route 30 and is grabbed by a Victreebel as a shield against Crystal's Archy. Crystal then tells Chumee to use Mean Look and captures them both.

In Lively Larvitar, Megaree battled against the Larvitar that injured Archy in the past.

In The Last Battle XIV, Megaree is used alongside the other starters to try and stop Pryce from capturing Celebi.

Emerald arc

Crystal and Megaree

Prior to The Final Battle I, Megaree was revealed to have mastered Frenzy Plant from Ultima. In The Final Battle VIII, Megaree teamed up with Saur and Emerald's Sceptile to attack with Frenzy Plant to help destroy Guile Hideout's fake Kyogre.

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc

In All About Arceus V, Megaree teams up with Exbo and Feraligatr to use their ultimate attacks against the incomplete forms of Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. While the attack managed to slow them down it ended up failing.

Personality and characteristics

Megaree is a very brave Pokémon and is described by Crystal as someone with "mega watts of courage". He wastes no time jumping into difficult battles and refuses to give up. Megaree also has a strong sense of justice and hates seeing the strong prey off of the weak.
