Megaree (Japanese: メガぴょん Megapyon), known as Mega in Chuang Yi's translations, is one of the Pokémon owned by Crystal in the Pokémon Adventures manga. Mega debuted as a Chikorita in Sneasel Sneak Attack as a cameo. He officially debuted in Three Cheers for Chikorita.

History

Gold, Silver & Crystal arc

As a Chikorita, Mega was left on his own after Silver stole Totodile and Gold took Cyndaquil. It wanted to go on adventures with a Trainer. However, Crystal had no plans of adding new Pokémon to her team, and he ran away from the lab to convince her.

When he finally got to Crystal, she caught it and a wild Victreebel that held it hostage, thinking it was a wild Pokémon. Mega became mad about this and insisted that he join her team, so Crys made him fight against Hitmonee, and due to his mega-courage shown when he withstood a Mach Punch attack, Crys decided to name him Mega, and took him along with her. Since all of Crys's team members have a star theme, Chumee gave him its star pendant.

Mega evolved to Bayleef in Larvitar's Too Cunning when he battled the Larvitar that attacked Crystal's Arcanine in the past, while she was still a child. A bit later, at the Whirl Islands, Mega became a Meganium while fighting alongside Exbo and Croconaw when the three evolved at the same time.

Emerald arc

Mega teamed up with the other starters to destroy Guile Hideout's giant, fake Kyogre in the end of the Emerald arc, having learned Frenzy Plant from Kimberly's rings sometime beforehand.

Trivia

  • Mega is the only one of Crystal's Pokémon whose nickname does not end with 'ee'. However, its Japanese name is Megapyon, and 'pyon' is the suffix applied to her other Pokémon's nicknames in Japanese.
  • The amount of rounds that Mega took to reach his first evolution and final form are the reversal of Saur's progressions, another grass-type starter.
