Meganium (Japanese: メガニウム Meganium) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Bayleef starting at level 32. It is the final form of Chikorita.

Biology

Physiology

Meganium is a sauropod-like Pokémon. Instead of having a leaf coming out of its head, like its two previous evolutions, Chikorita and Bayleef, it has two style-like protrusions sprouting from the top of its nose, each with what looks like their own stigma. The leaves around its neck seem to have sprouted into a large pink flower with white tips.

Gender differences

A female Meganium has shorter antennae.

Special abilities

The aroma emanating from Meganium's petals soothes anyone that comes in contact with it. It calms aggressive feelings. In battle, Meganium uses this scent to calm its opponent and remove any desire for it to fight, giving it the upper hand. Meganium's breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants.

Ash's Bulbasaur had a heated battle with Jackson's Meganium in EP268. Jackson, as Vincent, also used his Meganium to help save Raikou in The Legend of Thunder!.

An Officer Jenny from Gulpin it Down! had Meganium on her squad.

In Beg, Burrow and Steal, Elisa used her Meganium to stop a Donphan from chasing Hal and to help stop Team Rocket from stealing the Vibrava.

A Nurse Joy in Odd Pokémon Out had a Meganium, which became the object of affection for both Ash's Grovyle and a wild Tropius.

In the manga

Crystal's Bayleef evolved into Meganium to protect Gold, Silver, and herself from Lugia.

Trivia

Origin

This Pokémon has the appearance of a sauropod, particularly resembling an apatosaurus. Like Tropius, it is clearly resemblant to the Mokele-mbembe.

Name origin

Meganium's name is a combination of mega and geranium. It would seem the feminine name "Megan" (to match Chikorita's "Rita" and Bayleef's "Baylee") is also included.

In other languages

  • German: Meganie - from Mega and possibly Geranie (geranium).
  • French: Meganium
  • Korean: 메가니움 Meganium
  • Chinese: 大菊花
