Watanabe Mayu (Japanese: 渡辺麻友 Watanabe Mayu) is the guest narrator of the 26th Pikachu short of the Pokémon anime.

Biography

Mayu Watanabe was born March 26, 1994 in Saitama Prefecture, Japan. She was described as a shy child growing up, but at 13 years old she auditioned for an "idol" group in Akihabara, Tokyo. The group, AKB48, was to be produced by the well known lyricist and producer Yasushi Akimoto. In December 2006, Watanabe was accepted to be part of the third generation of AKB48 members along with 12 other girls. This group of girls was named as AKB48's "Team B", and Watanabe as named the team's "center". She has appeared in nearly all of AKB48's singles since she became a member, and she is often placed near the front for the dance formations. She was voted the Most Popular AKB48 Member in 2014 during the group's yearly "election", where fans vote for their favorite member.

While working as an AKB48 member she has had to opportunity to act in various dramas and movies. Her most prominent role was as the main character in Saba Doll, a comedy-drama series. She has also done work as a voice actress, in the anime series AKB0048 and the movie Nerawareta Gakuen
