This card was originally released in the Jungle expansion with artwork by Kagemaru Himeno. In Japan, it was later reprinted with new artwork by the same artist as a Glossy Promotional card for the first volume of the manga series, How I Became a Pokémon Card released in May 1999. This print has a symbol of an open book where an expansion symbol normally would be and is the only one of the six Natta Wake released promotional cards to be Glossy: the other five are Non Glossy cards.
This card was also released as a promotional card with different artwork, also by Kagemaru Himeno. In Japan, it came with issue 1 of Natta Wake's Why I Turned into a Pokémon Card, released in May 1999. This variant card was never released in English.
