Habitat
Diet
- Main article: Pokémon food
In the wild, Shinx, Luxio, and Luxray generally hunt for food. Evidence of this is plainly given in Luxray's Pokédex entry: "It has eyes that can see through anything... it can spot prey hidden behind solid objects."
In the anime
A Luxray made an appearance in The Rise of Darkrai.
Marble owns a Luxray, appearing in Luxray Vision!.
In the manga
In Pokémon Special, Mars used her Luxray to steal energy from Valley Windworks.
Later, when the trio are traveling through Mt. Coronet, a Luxray evolved from a Luxio they had helped earlier in their journey saved Pearl and Platina after they were trapped by a rock slide. This same Luxray later appeared to Pearl as he was traveling to Lake Valor.

Trivia
- Luxray's Platinum sprite resembles it's official artwork, except that the tail is pointing up.
- Luxray is one of only two second stage Template:Type2 Pokémon that was released in the same generation as its evolutionary relatives, the other being Ampharos.
- Unlike most Electric-types, Luxray has Speed as its lowest stat. It shares this trait with Ampharos and Magnezone.
Origin
Luxray is based on an adult male lion.
Name origin
Luxray is derived from lux, a measure of brightness, and x-ray, referring to its x-ray eyes. Its Japanese name is a combination of Roentgen, the physicist who discovered X-rays, and 虎 tora, tiger.
