Ludicolo (Japanese: ルンパッパ Runpappa) is a dual-type Water/Grass Pokémon.

It evolves from Lombre when exposed to a Water Stone. It is the final form of Lotad.

Biology

Physiology

Ludicolo is a mixture of a pineapple and a duck (or possibly a platypus). Ludicolo appears to sport a poncho and a green sombrero, which looks similar to a lily pad. It is colored yellow with black eyes and an orange bill. Its green, somewhat mitten-like hands are extremely large in comparison to other Pokémon's hands, and has two black lines of markings on its palms. There is a large, green sombrero-like feature on its head, with a short brown stem coming out of the top of it with a yellow spiky upper portion. There are several dark yellow stripes on its body and around its eyes is a patch of green. Ludicolo's legs are thick, green and sport a pattern of a black circle on the foot's underside.

Gender differences

A female has thinner stripes than a male.

Special abilities

Ludicolo can use several attacks such as Nature Power and Mega Drain, its attacks become even more powerful if it hears festive music as its muscles are filled with energy and the particles in its body begin to move faster, amplifying its power. Ludicolo also has the power of happiness, its dancing influences other people and Pokémon to join the dance as well. As a fully-evolved Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.

Behavior

Ludicolo is happy to a fault. It dances around without a care in the world all day. If a Ludicolo hears loud, happy music, it will come running to dance along to it. It cannot resist joining in with people having a good time.

Habitat

Ludicolo is seen to live in the forests right next to the water. It is also said to appear near laughing children on hiking trails.

Diet

Main article: Pokémon food

As Ludicolo is a plant-based Pokémon, it is possible that it obtains some of its energy through photosynthesis.

Ludicolo later made a cameo appearance during Emerald arc. It was one of the Pokémon Emerald rented during his Battle Factory challenge, but it was quickly traded for a different Pokémon.

At the other Battle Frontier, during the Platinum arc, Ludicolo appeared alongside Arcade Star Dahlia. Due to the results of Battle Arcade's roulette, Dahlia swapped teams with Platinum. Ludicolo's powerful Water-type moves helped the challenger defeat her own Rapidash.

Trivia

Origin

Ludicolo is probably based on a duck or kappa, a Mexican dancer, and a giant colocynth or pineapple.

Name origin

Ludicolo's name may be a combination of ludic or ludicrous, and colocynth, a plant that bears a round, yellow and green fruit. The colo may be an anagram of "loco", slang for "crazy".

Runpappa may be a combination of ルンルン runrun, happy or bouncy, and pappa, which may be the sound of a rapid drumbeat. It could also be a combination of rumba and kappa.

In other languages

Language Name Name Origin
German Kappalores From kappa and kokolores.
French Ludicolo
Korean 로파파 Ropapa
Chinese (Taiwan) 樂天河童 Lè Tiān Hé Tóng literally "Happy-go-lucky river lad". 河童 might also mean "Kappa".
