This is a list of all key items that are found in Generation II. Please note that many of these are also part of the list of key items in Generation IV due to Pokémon Gold and Silver being remade, and several appear in multiple generations.
List of key items in Generation II
Basement Key
- Japanese: ちかのカギ Basement Key
- Purpose: Allows the player to access the basement of the Goldenrod Underground.
- Description: Opens doors.
- Location: Johto Radio Tower
Bicycle
- Japanese: じてんしゃ Bicycle
- Purpose: Use to move faster than walking.
- Description: A collapsible bike for fast movement.
- Location: Goldenrod City
Blue Card
- Japanese: ブルーカード Blue Card
- Purpose: Allows player to answer daily question on Buena's show every evening to get points exchangeable for items
- Description: Card to save points.
- Location: Johto Radio Tower.*
Card Key
- Japanese: カードキー Card Key
- Purpose: Opens doors in the Johto Radio Tower.
- Description: Opens shutters in the Radio Tower.
- Location: Johto Radio Tower
Clear Bell
- Japanese: とうめいなスズ Clear Suzu
- Purpose: Summons a Suicune at Tin Tower in Ecruteak City
- Description: Makes a gentle ringing.
- Location: Johto Radio Tower.*
Coin Case
- Japanese: コインケース Coin Case
- Purpose: Holds up to 9999 coins for use at the Rocket Game Corner or Goldenrod Game Corner.
- Description: Holds up to 9,999 game coins.
- Location: Goldenrod City
Egg Ticket
- Japanese: タマゴのチケット Egg Ticket
- Purpose: Exchange at the Pokémon Communication Center for an Egg.
- Description: May be used at the Goldenrod Pokémon Communication Center.
- Location: Pokémon daycare*
Good Rod
- Japanese: いいつりざお Good Fishing Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. More powerful than the Old Rod.
- Description: A good Rod for catching Pokémon.
- Location: Olivine City
GS Ball
- Japanese: ジーエスボール GS Ball
- Purpose: Allows the player to encounter a wild Celebi in Ilex Forest.
- Description: The mysterious Ball.
- Location: Nintendo Event*
Itemfinder
- Japanese: ダウジングマシン Dowsing Machine
- Purpose: Locates items hidden on the ground.
- Description: Checks for unseen items in the area.
- Location: Ecruteak City
Lost Item
- Japanese: おとしもの Lost Item
- Purpose: Return to the Copycat for a Pass for the Magnet Train.
- Description: The Poké Doll lost by the Copycat.
- Location: Vermilion City
Machine Part
- Japanese: きかいのぶひん Machine Part
- Purpose: Take to the Power Plant to restore power to the Magnet Train.
- Description: A machine part for the Power Plant.
- Location: Cerulean Gym
Mystery Egg
- Japanese: ふしぎなタマゴ Mysterious Egg
- Purpose: Take to Professor Elm to study.
- Description: An Egg obtained by Mr. Pokémon.
- Location: Route 30
Old Rod
- Japanese: ボロのつりざお Worn-out Fishing Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish for low-level Pokémon in bodies of water.
- Description: Use by water to fish for Pokémon.
- Location: Route 32
Pass
- Japanese: ていきけん Season Pass
- Purpose: Allows the player to ride the Magnet Train between Saffron City and Goldenrod City.
- Description: A ticket for the Magnet Train.
- Location: Saffron City
Rainbow Wing
- Japanese: にじいろのはね Rainbow Feather
- Purpose: Allows the player to encounter a Ho-Oh in the Tin Tower.
- Description: A mystical feather of rainbow colors.
- Location: Johto Radio Tower/Pewter City
Red Scale
- Japanese: あかいウロコ Red Scale
- Purpose: Take to Mr. Pokémon and exchange for an Exp. Share.
- Description: A scale from the Red Gyarados.
- Location: Lake of Rage
SecretPotion
- Japanese: ひでんのくすり Secret Medicine
- Purpose: Take to Jasmine to help her heal Amphy.
- Description: Fully heals any Pokémon.
- Location: Cianwood City
Silver Wing
- Japanese: ぎんいろのはね Silver Feather
- Purpose: Allows the player to encounter a Lugia in the Whirl Islands.
- Description: A strange, silver-colored feather.

Squirtbottle
- Japanese: ゼニガメじょうろ Zenigame Watering Can
- Purpose: Allows the player to pass Sudowoodo.
- Description: A bottle used for watering plants.
- Location: Goldenrod City
S.S. Ticket
- Japanese: ふねのチケット Ship Ticket
- Purpose: Allows admission to the S.S. Aqua.
- Description: A ticket for the S.S. Aqua.
- Location: New Bark Town, given by Professor Elm after beating the Elite Four
Super Rod
- Japanese: すごいつりざお Amazing Fishing Rod
- Purpose: Allows the player to fish in bodies of water. It is the most advanced rod.
- Description: The best Rod for catching Pokémon.
- Location: Route 12
