The Lightning type is one of the eleven TCG types. It is represented by the color yellow, and symbolized by an S-shaped lightning bolt.
The Lightning type contains all Electric-type Pokémon found in the main series video games. For example, Raichu, Zapdos and Raikou are all Lightning types in the TCG.

Generally, Lightning Pokémon have a weakness to:
- Fighting
- Lightning (if the Pokémon was partially a Flying-type in the video games)
Generally, Lightning Pokémon have a resistance to:
- Metal*
- Fighting (if the Pokémon was partially a Flying-type in the video games)
These types are generally weak to Lightning Pokémon:
- Water (if the Pokémon was Water-type in the video games)
- Colorless (if the Pokémon was Flying-type in the video games)
These types are generally resistant to Lightning Pokémon:
- Fighting (if the Pokémon was Ground-type in the video games)
