In the midst of the battle between Diamond and Platinum and the scientists, a strange light coming from the center of the lake gives Diamond and Platinum a chance to resolve the battle. Pearl and Dr. Footstep swim to the shore and see the two scientists binded. After Diamond explaining them what had happened, Platinum faints due to the burden of the battle. At morning, she wakes up, shocked upon noticing they had camped out the previous night, as opposed to her plan of staying at Hotel Grand Lake. After the first shock she recovers and enjoys the sunrise. Diamond and Pearl come with breakfast. As the trio leaves, Pearl looks up the lake contemplatively.
Later, after Diamond, Pearl and Platinum decide to split up to stop Team Galactic, Pearl heads towards Lake Valor. In Tackling Tangrowth, Team Galactic blows up the lake in order to awaken and capture the Lake guardians. While he is dragged into the Lake Cavern by Saturn, Pearl reveals that he saw a reflection of a Azelf on the surface of the puddle in the cavern.

Pokémon world locations |
Lake Valor (Japanese: リッシこ Risshi Lake) is a location in the region of Sinnoh. Here, Team Galactic's Commander Saturn is battled for the first time. Within the cave in the center of the lake resides the legendary Pokémon Azelf.
During the events of Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, Team Galactic used a Galactic Bomb to dry up the lake. The resulting earthquake was felt in Canalave City, located at the opposite end of Sinnoh. After Dialga, Palkia, or Giratina has been captured or defeated at Mt. Coronet, the lake will appear rejuvenated. The entrance is blocked by two Cameramen until the player visits the Canalave Library.

In the anime
Lake Valor was the location of the Wallace Cup tournament and the Sinnoh Grand Festival. Like the games, the Hotel Grand Lake and Seven Stars Restaurant were located nearby, and Ash, Dawn, Brock, and May all battled the owners of the restaurant, Roman and Kylie.
In Pruning a Passel of Pals!, Ash decided to go for a walk with Pikachu after falling out of bed. At the lake, he had a brief encounter with the projected soul of Azelf, similar to Dawn's and Brock's encounters with Mesprit and Uxie, respectively.
In The Needs of the Three!, it was explained that Lake Valor, as well as all three of Sinnoh's lakes, are the entrances to another world where the lake guardians live, and they do not actually live in the lakes themselves.
In the same episode, Pokémon Hunter J dropped the Galactic Bomb, bringing out Azelf from its home and drawing out Mesprit and Uxie when their comrade was captured. She was challenged by Gary, who was working with Professor Rowan, but Saturn's Toxicroak quickly took care of his Umbreon and Electivire.

At the end of Bombastic Bibarel & Heroic Hippopotas, Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, along with Dr. Footstep, were thrown to the lakeside by a Sand Tomb created by wild Hippowdon. Diamond and Platinum ended up on the shore and while seeking for their comrades, Diamond told Platinum about a mysterious incident that happened to him when he was little at Lake Verity. After this, they encounter two scientists, who intend to take them away which leads to a battle. Meanwhile, Pearl and Dr. Footstep who ended up on the opposite shore of the lake but are thrown on an island in the middle of the lake by a wild Staraptor.
While he is dragged into the Lake Cavern by Saturn, Pearl reveals that he saw a reflection of a blue-headed Pokémon on the surface of the puddle in the cavern.

The lake makes its first appearance in The Legendary Pokémon, Captured where it was all dried up from the explosion caused by Saturn putting off a Galactic Bomb.
Trivia
- At each of Sinnoh's lakes, a TM can be found containing a powerful move of a different type. Lake Valor's TM is Electric-type.
- For some reason, the damage caused by Team Galactic's bomb is fixed when later returning.
- There appears to be the dried-up remains of a river that would flow into the lake on the northwest side that vanishes when the lake is restored. However, it is also possible that the bomb was detonated in the upper left corner of the lake, and consequently blew away the land in this area.
- When the bomb is set off here, the blast is powerful enough to be felt in Canalave City on the other side of Sinnoh, but there is no damage to the Magikarp living in the lake or the surrounding area, besides the obvious crater and disappearance of water.
- The Galactic Bomb in the anime functions differently from its counterpart in the games. Instead of a violent detonation that destroys the landscape and drains Lake Valor, it creates a spatial anomaly that either makes the water disappear or repels it and forcibly pulls Azelf out of hiding.
- Lake Valor is the only Sinnoh lake that is not entered from the south.
- When the lake is dried, the cavern seems to sink down to the bottom.
Name origin
Valor means "courage". This is fitting, as Azelf is the Willpower Pokémon.
Risshi is from 立志 risshi, "resolve" or "aspiration".
