Kricketune (Japanese: コロトック Korotock) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Kricketot starting at level 10.

Biology

Physiology

Kricketune is a mainly, red cricket-like Pokémon that resembles both a conductor and a stringed instrument. It has gray-colored eyes, black feelers in the shape of a mustache, and a dark-red segment between the ‘mustache’. Kricketune has two small feet, black wings shaped like a conductor's cape, and scythes for hands (similar to Scyther's). Its long antennae are shaped somewhat like scythes, and there are three black dots on its lower body with two beige stripes running down its neck to the centermost of the black dots. Below the centermost dot is a pattern with a dark-red upper section and beige lower section.

Gender differences

A female has a shorter "mustache".

Special abilities

It can make music by rubbing its arms together. It is also able to use its scythelike foreparts for attacks like Fury Cutter, Slash, and Night Slash.

Behavior

It signals its many emotions with the variable melodies it creates. It crosses its knifelike arms in front of its chest when it cries, and can compose melodies ad lib. Kricketune may produce sounds by allowing its cry to resonate in the hollow of its belly.

In the anime

Kricketune in the anime

A Kricketune made a brief cameo during the Floaroma Pokémon Contest in Settling a Not-So-Old Score!.

Nando was seen battling and performing with his Kricketune in Dawn's Early Night. It also helped Nando win the Beach Rose Ribbon in A Breed Stampede!. In Coming Full-Festival Circle!, it reappeared alongside Nando's Lopunny in the Sinnoh Grand Festival in his battle against Zoey. In DP183, Nando used Kricketune, who faced off against Ash's Heracross. Like in his battle against Zoey, Nando lost.

A Kricketune is seen living in Crown City in Ruler of Illusions: Zoroark.

Trivia

  • Unlike most evolved Pokémon, except in the case of baby Pokémon, it is far more common in the wild than its pre-evolution. This is due to Kricketune being available at all times of day, while Kricketot is only found at night (as well as morning in Platinum), as well as the low level required for its evolution.
  • Despite its Platinum Pokédex entry, all Kricketune have the same cry.

Origin

Kricketune appears to be based on a violin beetle, as well as crickets because they make sounds by rubbing their arms on their abdomen. They are also based on music conductors, due to their mustache and their wings resembling capes. It is also shaped somewhat like a grandfather clock.

Name origin

Its name comes from cricket and tune. Its Japanese name may come from 蟋蟀 koorogi, cricket, and a corruption of 曲 kyoku, tune.

In other languages

  • German: Zirpeise - A combination of zirpen (to chirp) and Weise (tune).
  • French: Melokrik - Combination of mélodie (melody) and criquet (cricket)
  • Korean: 귀뚤톡크 Gwittultokkeu
  • Chinese (Taiwan): 音箱蟀 Yīn Xiāng Shuài - Literally "Soundbox/speaker cricket". 蟀 is derived from 蟋蟀 Xīshuài (cricket).
