Ash's Kingler as seen in Spurt!

Kingler first appeared in Showdown at Dark City as one of the Kas Gym's Pokémon.

Kingler's first major role was in The Battle of the Badge, under the ownership of Giovanni. He used it in his Gym battle against Gary's Nidoking and Arcanine. Despite the type disadvantage, Giovanni's Kingler was defeated by Gary's Arcanine. Giovanni had loaned his Kingler to Jessie, James and Meowth when he put them in charge of the Viridian Gym while he was out.

Ash's Krabby evolved into a Kingler in Round One - Begin!, during Ash's first round battle in the Indigo League.

A Kingler appeared in DP089.

Trivia

  • Kingler has one claw much larger than the other, but in the Red/Blue sprite they are the same size and width. However, this may be due to Kingler holding one claw closer than the other.
  • With the exception of the afformentioned Red/Blue sprite, Kingler's left claw (right to viewers') is always the larger of the two, however, in Kingler's Generation I back sprite, the claws are reversed. Its right claw becomes the bigger one.
  • Kingler shares the same species name with Scizor. They are both known as Pincer Pokémon, though Scizor has also been called the Scissors Pokémon.
  • Kingler and its pre-evolution Krabby are two of the four Pokémon that can learn Crabhammer by level up (Corphish and Crawdaunt being the other two Pokémon).
  • With a base attack of 130, Kingler has the highest attack stat of any Template:Type2 Pokémon.

Origin

Kingler is very similar to a fiddler crab.

Name origin

Kingler's name might be a combination of king and fiddler - both species of crab.

In other languages

  • German: Kingler
  • French: Krabboss - From "crabe" that means crab, and "boss", the same word as in English.
  • Korean: 킹크랩 Kingkeuraep - A combination of translitterations of King and crab
