If you were looking for the Keys from the Unova Link, see Key System.

A Key (Japanese: カギ Key) is an item that can be used to unlock doors in dungeons in the games Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, its sequel games Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Sky, and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity. They are generally rare and difficult to obtain, usually appearing in later dungeons as a random floor item, or bought for a large price (8000 Poké) from Kecleon Shops.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Red Rescue Team and Blue Rescue Team, the Key is used to open chambers appearing on set floors of certain dungeons in order to gain rare items that are usually otherwise unobtainable, such as HMs, Friend Bows and Wish Stones. It is consumed after use.

Items obtainable with Keys are:

Issue #28 of Pokémon News hints that Keys can be found in the Desert Region.

Locations

Keys can be found in the following dungeons:

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers or Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time, Explorers of Darkness, and Explorers of Sky, Keys are used to open chambers that randomly appear in dungeons when not on a mission.

Locations

Keys can be found in:

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Gates to Infinity, Keys unlock doors for detours, which hold Deluxe Boxes, special enemies, and special tiles. All Keys may be sold at the Kecleon Shop for 165 Poké.

How to obtain

Blue Keys, Red Keys, Black Keys, and Green Keys may be obtained through passwords or as prizes for missions. A Black Key is obtained from a treasure chest in the Glacier Palace dungeon. Keys can also be obtained by trading Gold Bars with Cofagrigus or by ranking up.
