Keldeo (Japanese: ケルディオ Keldeo) is one of the featured Pokémon in Kyurem VS. The Sword of Justice. Keldeo is friends with the Swords of Justice and trains to become an official member.

201

Keldeo first appears in a grassy plain, where it trains with Virizion. By listening to the voice of the grass, Keldeo manages to get Virizion out of its hiding place. Pleased with Keldeo's progress, Virizion forces Keldeo to chase after it. Keldeo and Virizion end up in a lake, where Virizion summons its Sacred Sword technique and prepares to face Keldeo. Keldeo tries to summon its own sword to counter Virizion, but is unable to and instead uses its horn to clash with it.

Later, Keldeo trains with Terrakion in a mountainous area. Although Terrakion proves powerful, Keldeo manages to be much faster than it and uses its speed to land a blow in. This causes a rock to fall on Terrakion, who simply shrugs it off and destroys the rock with Sacred Sword. The two Pokémon then clash at each other with their swords.

Keldeo later trains with Cobalion in a stormy forest area. Despite Cobalion warning Keldeo that the storm will get worse, Keldeo simply ignores it and continues running through the area. After Keldeo nearly gets hurt by a felled tree, Cobalion calls Keldeo reckless. Keldeo takes offense to the statement and immediately denies it. During their fight, Keldeo demands to know when it will be allowed to battle Kyurem. Cobalion doesn't answer, and instead faces Keldeo with its Sacred Sword. The two Pokémon then share a clash between their weapons.

Later, Keldeo overhears a conversation between the Swords of Justice about whether or not Keldeo is ready enough to face Kyurem in battle. While Terrakion believes it is and Virizion is unsure, Cobalion states that Keldeo is not ready yet. Keldeo tries to convince Cobalion otherwise, but to no avail. Later that night, when the Swords of Justice are asleep, Keldeo sneaks out to face Kyurem. Keldeo travels to Full Court, where it announces to Kyurem that it is a Sword of Justice and that it intends to face it in battle. After stepping into the gate created by Kyurem, Keldeo faces it in battle. When the Swords of Justice enter the mines to stop Keldeo, they find that they had arrived too late.

Despite its best efforts, Kyurem proves to be far too powerful for Keldeo to handle, as none of Keldeo's attacks seem to hurt it. The battle soon escalated with Kyurem breaking off Keldeo's horn, and the Colt Pokemon becomes terrified by its powerful foe. Terrakion tries to stop the fight, but Cobalion stops Terrakion from interfering with the fight. This annoys Kyurem, who transforms into White Kyurem to freeze the Swords of Justice solid. Seeing its friends frozen in ice, Keldeo is overcome with fear and runs away. Angered that its opponent would run away rather than fight, Kyurem chases after Keldeo with its Cryogonal allies.

Later, an injured Keldeo ends up at Windy Station where it is found by Ash and his friends on a train heading towards Roshan City. Due to still being shaken up and injured from the battle, Keldeo tries to escape again but collapses from its injuries. Kyurem quickly arrives on the train and begins to attack Keldeo once more. Ash and the others are saved when the train goes through a tunnel, forcing Kyurem to jump off. Later, they take Keldeo to the Roshan City Pokémon Center so that it can be healed. After being healed, Keldeo reveals to Ash and his friends about what had happened to it. Sympathizing with Keldeo, Ash and his friends decide to help it face Kyurem in battle and rescue the Swords of Justice. When they head off again, Kyurem suddenly appears and begins attacking again. Using Hydro Pump to fly in the air, Keldeo, Ash, and Pikachu manage to escape from the Cryogonal that Kyurem sent to attack.

They manage to escape, and eventually end up in a museum for vehicles. Iris and Cilan decide to use the vehicles to distract Kyurem and the Cryogonal long enough for Ash and Keldeo to escape and make it to Full Court and rescue the Swords of Justice. As Ash and Keldeo travel to Full Court, Keldeo asks why Ash is helping it so much. Ash simply responds by stating that they're friends. They soon reach Full Court where Kyurem had returned to, which causes Keldeo to shake in fear after remembering its earlier defeat. Ash, realizing that Keldeo is too scared to continue, decides to go and rescue the Swords of Justice with Pikachu instead. While Ash and his Pokémon work to free the Pokémon from the ice, Kyurem comes back and begins attacking him. This gives Keldeo the courage to stand up and fight.

Keldeo reveals to Kyurem that it isn't a Sword of Justice and is only training to be one. Kyurem replies that it knew that Keldeo was lying the entire time, and simply creates another gate for Keldeo to step through. Although scared, some words of encouragement from Ash and memories of its training with the Swords of Justice give Keldeo the courage to pass through the gate. Realizing that it has never been alone, Keldeo transforms into its Resolute Form and faces Kyurem a second time.

The transformation allows Keldeo to use its true strength and gives it the move Secret Sword, making Keldeo a match for Kyurem's power. The battle does intense damage to Full Court, which eventually causes the ice holding the Swords of Justice to break, freeing them in the process. However, a stray attack forces Keldeo to jump in the way to save its friends. Although it succeeds, Keldeo becomes far too injured to continue battling, making Kyurem the victor.

Keldeo, after being defeated by Kyurem

Although Keldeo admits defeat, Kyurem spares Keldeo for choosing to save its friends instead of continuing the fight. Surprised at Kyurem's praise, Keldeo turns back into its Ordinary Form. Cobalion and the other Swords of Justice praise Keldeo for finally learning the true weight of its sword. Suddenly, Full Court begins collapsing because of the strain it took from the battle earlier. Keldeo, the Swords of Justice, and Ash and his friends manage to escape in time, while Kyurem uses its powers to freeze the collapsing mine and creates an ice castle to live in. With everyone safe, Cobalion names Keldeo a true Sword of Justice. After transforming back into its Resolute Form, Keldeo recites the Swords of Justice oath with its teammates.

Personality and characteristics

Keldeo is a young Pokémon training to be a member of the Swords of Justice, a group of Pokémon it greatly respects. Although powerful, Keldeo is reckless and arrogant, which tends to get Keldeo to try and take on challenges that are far too tough for it.
