As Ash and his Pokémon attempted to free the trapped Swords of Justice from the ice, Keldeo returns as Kyurem was about to attack Ash. Keldeo admits to Kyurem that it lied about being a Sword of Justice, but Kyurem reveals it knew about the lie all along and demand they end their battle. 201

Keldeo was training to become part of the Swords of Justice where it battled with Virizion, Terrakion and Cobalion. Virizion was the first opponent Keldeo battled. Keldeo had trouble keeping up with Virizion at first since they were battling in a grassy field. However, Keldeo uses its hearing to find out where Virizion is hiding and pushes it out with Hydro Pump. With Virizion out of its hiding place, the Grassland Pokémon uses Sacred Sword. Keldeo tries to use the move but the Colt Pokémon had trouble with its horn. Keldeo defends itself with its horn from Virizion's Sacred Sword.

Terrakion was the next opponent and their battle takes place in a rocky field. Terrakion manages to dodge most of Keldeo's attacks due to the Cavern Pokémon being very fast. However, one of Keldeo's attacks hits a nearby rock which lands on top of Terrakion. Terrakion manages to lift it back up and destroy it with its Sacred Sword. Once again, Keldeo clashes with Sacred Sword with its own horn since Keldeo had trouble with performing the move.

Cobalion was the last of the Swords of Justice to battle Keldeo. They raced to a forest area in stormy weather. Cobalion warns Keldeo about its recklessness as Keldeo didn't want to stop the battle. When Keldeo extinguished the flames from a fallen tree and attacked with Focus Blast, Cobalion ended up clashing with Keldeo with Sacred Sword.

Keldeo was then evaluated by the three with Cobalion mentioning that it is not ready to battle Kyurem as Keldeo is too inexperienced to do so. Convinced that it was ready to face Kyruem, Keldeo walks off to the Full Court mountain mine to battle the Boundary Pokemon. The Colt Pokemon challenged Kyurem to a battle, claiming to be a Sword of Justice, and the Boundary Pokemon accepts the challenge. Although Keldeo managed to land a few hits on Kyurem, the Boundary Pokemon proved to be too much for the Colt Pokemon, and the battle escalated with Kyurem slashing off a piece of Keldeo's horn using Shadow Claw. Upon seeing its broken horn, Keldeo becomes petrified with fear as Kyurem advances to continue their battle. The Swords of Justice, having watched the battle nearby, attempted to stop the fight between Keldeo and Kyurem. Enraged, Kyurem did not want them to interfere and froze Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion in a block of ice using Ice Burn. Keldeo then gives into its fear after seeing its friends frozen and the Colt Pokemon runs off with Kyurem and its Cryogonal allies in pursuit.

Keldeo ran all the way to Windy Station where Ash and his friends were on their way to Roshan City. Keldeo met them when it jumped on the train after it got worn out from running away from Kyurem. As Keldeo was too scared to fight Kyurem, Ash, Iris and Cilan did their best to prevent Keldeo from getting hurt. Being far away from Kyurem and Cryogonal, Keldeo dines in on the Darumaka boxed lunches that the group bought from Malin earlier. Keldeo explains about its friends, the Swords of Justice, and its encounter with Kyurem. Ash then promises Keldeo that it will be returned to the Swords of Justice. Just then, Kyurem and Cryogonal appear again and Keldeo along with the group get chased. They head to a train station with Cryogonal surrounding Keldeo, Ash and Pikachu. Keldeo escapes by using Hydro Pump to jump in the air, carrying the young Trainer along with Pikachu. With Iris and Cilan distracting the Ice-type despite the former having a fear of them, Ash goes with Keldeo to Full Court to free the Swords of Justice. When they arrived, Keldeo stays behind when Kyurem returned to the mines and the Colt Pokemon lost the courage to face Kyurem.

As it crosses the gate once more to finish its battle with Kyurem, Keldeo starts to regain the courage using the advice the Swords of Justice gave to the Colt Pokémon during their training, and transforms into its Resolute Form. Kyurem was not convinced that the Colt Pokémon will be able to win this time with the current condition of Keldeo's sword, but Keldeo managed to stay in the battle using its improved techniques, recalling the teachings of Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion. As it seemed that Kyurem won the battle by shifting into Black Kyurem and freezing Keldeo solid, the Colt Pokemon breaks free and learned the move, Secret Sword, landing a direct hit on Kyurem and blocking its Dragon Breath attack with its sword with relative ease. Pleased at seeing Keldeo's true power, Kyurem attacks at full strength by unleashing another Freeze Shock attack, to which Keldeo blocks, but the attack strays and threatens Ash and company along with the Swords of Justice. Keldeo jumps in and blocks the attack from hitting its friends, but takes heavy damage in the process and collapses, allowing Kyurem to pin Keldeo down by its horn. Keldeo admits defeat, and Kyurem spares the Colt Pokemon, seeing that Keldeo was worthy to become a member of the Swords of Justice due to its noble act of saving its friends over winning the battle. Kyurem then compliments that Keldeo has a fine sword, before departing back for its lair. The Full Court starts collapsing from the damage it sustained from the battle, and Keldeo along with the others managed to get out safely, while Kyurem shifts into White Kyurem and simply uses Ice Burn to freeze the collapsing pieces of the mine into place. With Keldeo now a member of the Swords of Justice, it joins the others to recite the oath.
