Kaiser

(Japanese: カイザー Kaiser) is the Safari Zone warden in the episode The Legend of Dratini. He is largely responsible for the banning of this episode everywhere outside of Japan for pointing a gun in Ash Ketchum's face. Because of this, he does not have an English name. He is voiced by 鈴木泰明 Taimei Suzuki.

He appears to be a very threatening man towards everybody who enters the Safari Zone. However, this is only because he wants to protect a Dratini from poachers. Unfortunately, he was captured by Team Rocket, and using various tactics, they forced him to give away the location of the Dratini.

Later on, he finds his Dratini friend and sees that it had evolved into Dragonair and had children of its own.

The main reason why The Legend of Dratini was banned.

Kaiser's Dragonair is a Pokémon Kaiser befriended since he was a young man and have been friends ever since, its only appearance being in EP035. Kaiser has a picture of him and Dragonair as a Dratini in his office. It first appeared as a Dratini when Team Rocket were trying to find it, it appeared first to Jessie whilst James and TRMeowth ([[{{{2}}} (move)|{{{2}}}]]) were in the lake nearly drowning. It disappeared back into the water then appeared on the surface fainted with all the other Pokémon who live in the lake from the dynamite planted in the lake.

Kaiser tried to retrieve the dynamite but needed to be saved by Misty's Staryu, Ash tried next but was drowning, suddenly a Pokémon appeared and causes a storm, suddenly in the sky appears Ash riding Dragonair, it sends Team Rocket blasting off. Kaiser is reunited with Dragonair and suddenly out of the water appears a baby Dratini. Dragonair and Dratini bid farewell to Ash and his friends.

None of its moves are known but moves may have been used to create the storm.

Trivia

  • Kaiser's appearance, demeanour, and partiality to a handgun bears resemblance to the Man with No Name, a stereotype of the spaghetti Western genre made famous by Clint Eastwood. Interestingly, the series of films in which this character appeared was adapted directly from Akira Kurosawa's Yojimbo, which was the basis for another episode of the original series.
  • His administrative position in the Safari Zone relates to his name, which was a title reserved for an emperor of the Austrian and German Empires.
