Ice Ball does damage over five turns, increasing in power for each consecutive hit. The power will reset after five turns or if Ice Ball is interrupted. If the Pokémon uses Defense Curl any time before Ice Ball, Ice Ball's power is doubled as long as the Pokémon remains in battle.

Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series
Ice Ball deals damage, hitting the target up to 5 times per use. The move will end early as soon as a single hit misses. In the Rescue Team series, Ice Ball's damage is multiplied by 1.5×, 2×, 2.5×, and finally 3× for each successive hit. In the Explorers series, the damage increases only by 0.1× for each successive hit. Ice Ball's base critical hit rate is lower than normal (2% in the Rescue Team, Explorers, and Adventure Squad series).
From Super Mystery Dungeon onward, Ice Ball no longer increases in power for each successive hit, but will double in power the first time it is used successfully if Defense Curl had been used by the user on the same floor.

Trivia
Trivia
* Though rarely encountered under normal circumstances, this move has the distinction of being capable of attaining the highest base power; if the attacking Pokémon has used Defense Curl and Ice Ball hits for a fifth consecutive time, the move will have a base power of 960. It shares this distinction with Rollout, its Rock counterpart.
* Excluding signature moves and Z-Moves, Ice Ball is the only Ice-type move to Pokémon Sword and Shield in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
* A level 100 Shuckle can potentially deal the most damage in one single attack through the use of numerous stat boosters; by receiving the effects of Helping Hand from two allies in a triple battle, holding a In-battle effect item, Power Trick, a Skill Swap to Pure Power, a conversion to Ice, and 6 stages of positive Attack stat changes. Also, both of Shuckle's partners must have the Ability Flower Gift and the weather must be sunny. On the 5th turn of using a Defense Curl-boosted Ice Ball (learned via Mimic) consecutively without any misses, if used against a level 1 Noibat with minimum Defense stats, that has 6 stages of negative Defense stat changes (such as from being subject to Screech 3 times), and being under the effect of Forest's Curse it can deal 721,899,685 damage with a Damage modification.
* Though in the games, Ice Ball makes contact, the anime portrays the move as a projectile that does not involve the user and target making physical contact.  A similar situation occurs with Petal Dance and Grass Knot, both of which have anime depictions that contradict the fact that they make contact in the games.
**Conversely, the opposite is true for Sky Attack, which does not make contact in the games, but does so in the anime.

Ice Ball (Japanese: アイスボール Ice Ball) is a damage-dealing Ice-type move introduced in Generation III. Prior to Generation VI, it was the signature move of Spheal's evolutionary line, but other Pokémon could still inherit it via breeding.

Effect

Generations III to VII

Ice Ball inflicts damage over five turns, doubling in power for each consecutive hit; the power will reset after five turns or if Ice Ball is interrupted. It is a consecutively executed move. Ice Ball's power is doubled in addition if the user had previously used Defense Curl. Pokémon with Bulletproof are immune to Ice Ball.

Hitting a Mimikyu in Disguised Form will produce the Rollout storage glitch.

Ice Ball is also part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Defense Curl was used in the prior turn.

Generation VIII

Pokémon Sword and Shield

Ice Ball cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

Ice Ball cannot be selected in a battle.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

Ice Ball's base power was increased to 40. It inflicts damage and causes the user to become fixated on using the move.
