Trivia

  • No other Pokémon share its type combination with Sazandra and its evolutionary line.
  • Of all the Pokémon that evolve by level alone, Sazandra evolves from its pre-evolution later than any other Pokémon, at level 64.
  • Sazandra is the only pseudo-legendary Pokémon to have a higher Special Attack stat than Attack.
  • Sazandra is the only pseudo-legendary Pokémon with multiple elemental immunities; however, Sazandra's immunity to Ground is due to its ability, Levitate.
  • Sazandra and Metagross are the only pseudo-legendary Pokémon that do not have any 4× weaknesses.
  • Sazandra is the only pseudo-legendary Pokémon that does not have a base stat over 125.
  • Sazandra has the highest Special Attack of all non-legendary Dark-types.

Origin

Sazandra and its evolutionary line may be based upon the Lernaean Hydra of Greek Mythology, a beast that grew two more heads in its place if one was severed. It also brings to mind King Ghidorah, the three-headed archenemy of Godzilla. Its type combination and ability support this connection.

Name origin

Both the sa and zan in Sazandra's name seem to come from 三 sa/san, or three, a reference to its three heads. The dra in Sazandra's name comes from either dragon or hydra, also a reference to its three heads in the form of a hydra's.
