Heal Block prevents the functioning of the moves Ingrain, Aqua Ring, Moonlight, Morning Sun, Roost, Recover, Heal Order, Rest, Softboiled, Wish, Milk Drink, Slack Off, and Synthesis, while it is under effect. The player can still use items such as Potions to heal the Pokémon.
Heal Block restricts the targets from healing in certain ways for five turns.

The moves Absorb, Mega Drain, Giga Drain, Horn Leech, Leech Life, Dream Eater, Drain Punch, and Leech Seed will still inflict damage, but will not restore HP when the user is affected by Heal Block.
Affected Pokémon cannot use status moves that heal the user immediately, Wish, Lunar Dance or Healing Wish. If an affected Pokémon had already selected one of these moves to use before being affected by Heal Block, it is prevented from using the move (i.e. no PP is consumed). If a Pokémon cannot use any moves when selecting a move to use due to Heal Block (e.g., due to knowing no other moves that have PP, Choice Band, etc.), it will use Struggle. Restricted moves can still be called by moves that call other moves (such as Metronome), but they are prevented from being used.

Pokémon with the Ability Volt Absorb or Water Absorb will take damage, as opposed to healing, from Electric- or Water attacks respectively while Heal Block is in effect. A poisoned Pokémon with Poison Heal is neither healed nor damaged.
Affected Pokémon can still use HP-draining moves; these moves will still inflict damage, but will not restore HP. Liquid Ooze is not affected by Heal Block.

All other Abilities and items which restore HP during battle will continue to work as normal. Heal Block wears off after 5 turns.
Affected Pokémon can still use Present, Ingrain, and Aqua Ring. However, affected Pokémon cannot be healed by the effects of Wish (which cannot be used while affected by Heal Block) or these moves.

All Abilities and items which restore HP during battle will continue to work as normal.

Affected Pokémon can no longer be healed by Heal Pulse, Black Sludge, Leftovers, and Shell Bell.

Generation VI
Affected Pokémon will no longer consume held HP-restoring Berries or Berry Juice. If an affected Pokémon consumes an HP-restoring Berry via Fling, Bug Bite or Pluck, it will not have its HP restored. Heal Block will not prevent Pokémon with the Ability Regenerator from having their HP restored upon switching out.
Heal Block now prevents the moves Absorb, Draining Kiss, Drain Punch, Dream Eater, Giga Drain, Horn Leech, Leech Life, Mega Drain, Oblivion Wing, and Parabolic Charge from being used. Leech Seed can still be used and will still inflict damage, but will not restore HP.

Affected Pokémon with the Ability Dry Skin or Water Absorb will take no damage from Water moves, but will not be healed by them either; affected Pokémon with the Ability Volt Absorb will take no damage from Electric moves, but will not be healed by them either. Affected Pokémon with the Ability Dry Skin or Rain Dish are prevented from healing during rain; affected Pokémon with the Ability Ice Body are prevented from healing during hail, but are not damaged by it either. A poisoned Pokémon with Poison Heal that is affected by Heal Block is neither healed nor damaged.

Heal Block (Japanese: かいふくふうじ Restore Seal) is a non-damaging Psychic-type move introduced in Generation IV.

Effect

Generation IV

Heal Block restricts the targets from healing in certain ways for five turns.

Affected Pokémon can still use HP-draining moves; these moves will still inflict damage, but will not restore HP. Liquid Ooze is not affected by Heal Block.

Affected Pokémon can still use Present, Ingrain, and Aqua Ring. However, affected Pokémon cannot be healed by the effects of Wish (which cannot be used while affected by Heal Block) or these moves.

All Abilities and items which restore HP during battle will continue to work as normal.

Generation V

Heal Block can now be reflected with Magic Coat and Magic Bounce.

Affected Pokémon also cannot use the move Heal Pulse.

Affected Pokémon can no longer be healed by Heal Pulse, Black Sludge, Leftovers, and Shell Bell.

Affected Pokémon with the Ability Dry Skin or Water Absorb will take no damage from Water-type moves, but will not be healed by them either; affected Pokémon with the Ability Volt Absorb will take no damage from Electric-type moves, but will not be healed by them either.

Generation VI onward

Affected Pokémon also cannot use the move Pollen Puff targeting an ally (but they can use it targeting an opponent) or the move Floral Healing. Affected Pokémon cannot be healed by the moves Pollen Puff or Floral Healing.

Affected Pokémon can no longer use HP-draining moves, except Leech Seed. Leech Seed will inflict damage to the seeded Pokémon, but will not restore HP to a Pokémon affected by Heal Block.

Affected Pokémon can still use Grassy Terrain, but they cannot be healed by the effects of Grassy Terrain.

Affected Pokémon with the Ability Cheek Pouch will not be healed after eating a Berry.

Affected Pokémon can still restore HP using the Z-Power effects of status Z-Moves. Heal Block cannot prevent a Pokémon from using or being healed by any Z-Move, including moves like Z-Soft-Boiled and Z-Heal Pulse.

If powered up by a Psychium Z into Z-Heal Block, the user's Special Attack stat raises two stages.
