Faraway Island

Guyana is a location in South America in the Pokémon world. It is known to be the habitat of Mew. It is based on the real-world location.

In the games

While Guyana has not directly appeared in the games, Mr. Fuji apparently visited Faraway Island, a small, forested island which contains a wild Mew. This island could possibly be the area referenced in the Pokémon Mansion journals, which was described as a jungle in Guyana.

Pokémon Adventures

Faraway Island first appeared in Mirage is Far Away, in which Mr. Briney reported to Kimberly that he managed to find the island without the Old Sea Map. He told her Mew was there but it was alarmed by his presence and flew away from the island.

The place later appeared in The Final Showdown VIII, when all the rental Pokémon at Battle Frontier were calmed by Emerald using pellets with soil from the Pokémon's birthplace. Gold explained he was able to affect many different Pokémon using the same soil because it was taken from the home of Mew, who is said to possess the genes of all Pokémon.

Real-world counterpart

Flag of Guyana

Guyana, officially the Co-operative Republic of Guyana, previously known as British Guiana, is a real-world sovereign state on the northern coast of South America that is culturally part of the Anglophone Caribbean.
