Grotle (Japanese: ハヤシガメ Hayashigame) is a Template:Type2 Pokémon.

It evolves from Turtwig starting at level 18, and evolves into Torterra starting at level 32.

Biology

Physiology

Grotle with acorns

The shell possessed by Turtwig has grown to protect Grotle's entire head and back. Turtwig's sprout has migrated to Grotle's back and grown into full bushes. Grotle will sometimes start to roll around in dirt and mud. This allows minerals to seep in and make its shell even harder. Grotle may also carry nuts like acorns on its bushes.

Gender differences

None.

Trivia

  • Grotle is the heaviest of any of the middle evolutions of the starters and heavier than all of the final stages of the starters except for Venusaur, Meganium and Torterra. Interestingly, all of these Pokémon are Grass-type.
  • In the anime, Grotle is said to be slower now that it has evolved. However, Grotle has a higher base Speed than its preevolved form.

Origin

Grotle is based on a snapping turtle.

Name origin

"Grotle" comes from grove, grow, or ground and turtle. Its Japanese name, Hayashigame, derives from 林 hayashi, forest or grove, and 亀 kame, turtle.
