Grimsley first appears on Route 4 in disguise, where he plays a game of card flip with the workers there in order to give them something to do on their breaks. He quickly gets acquainted with Black and challenges him to a game that involves guessing where the local Drilbur will pop up. When a construction worker falls into a hole created by the Drilbur, Grimsley realizes that the person is an imposter in disguise (due to him telling the workers not to go on the side they were playing the game on) and battles him. Grimsley wins and removes the imposter's disguise, revealing the person to be a Team Plasma Grunt. He then explains to Black who he truly is and decides to have a battle with him, with the conditions that whoever loses has to give up something precious.

Before Black can answer, he faints from mental stress, which leads to Grimsley deciding to bind up the Plasma Grunt and leaves a card telling to punish him.

This listing is of Grimsley's known Pokémon in the Pokémon Adventures manga.

		Bisharp
		Bisharp is Grimsley's only known Pokémon. It first appeared with its Trainer on Route 4 where it helped Grimsley play card flip with the workers there. Later, it battled a disguised Team Plasma Grunt's Maractus and defeated it. Bisharp's only known move is Fury Cutter.

Grimsley appears in one panel alongside the other Elite Four members defeated by N's Zekrom at the destroyed Pokémon League.

Trivia

• According to an interview with Yusuke Ohmura in Nintendo Dream, Grimsley's design is themed on both vampires (specifically Dracula himself) and gambling. While his clothes are meant to look refined, the blue-black shade and red of them are a reference to the colors of the roulette.^[1]
• Grimsley uses a male Scrafty upon battling him the first time. It is then replaced with a female Scrafty upon battling him a second time.
  • Notably, Sharpedo, who is in Scrafty's slot in subsequent battles, is the only male Pokémon on Grimsley's team, meaning that only the first Pokémon in Grimsley's party is male while the rest are female.
• Grimsley's Liepard is the only Pokémon without a unique type combination, as well as being the only one who isn't a dual-type, in the first match against him.
• Grimsley is the only member of the Unova Elite Four not to appear outside the Pokémon League.
