Diamond & Pearl: Great Encounters is the name given to the fourth expansion of cards of the Diamond & Pearl era of the Trading Card Game.
Information
Great Encounters, whose named is based on the Moonlit Pursuit subset of Moonlit Pursuit/Dawn Dash, is the first English-language Diamond & Pearl era set not based on an entire Japanese set. The set contains six cards from Shining Darkness and all but thirteen cards from Moonlit Pursuit. It also contains more than half of the Dawn Dash subset (as well as three cards available in both subsets), with the cards not included in this set making up the base of Majestic Dawn.
In order for the fifth Japanese set, Temple of Anger/Cry from the Mysterious, to be released closer to the release of the eleventh Pokémon movie (Giratina and the Sky's Bouquet: Shaymin), the set was delayed by three months, making a six-month gap between DP4 and DP5 in Japan. In order to prevent such a large gap in the English-language releases, six Diamond & Pearl sets are to be released in these territories, splitting up Japan's DP4 and DP5 (both over 140 cards in size) into English sets Great Encounters (106 cards), Majestic Dawn (100 cards) and DP6.
Great Encounters is also the first set to include Darkrai, containing both its cards from Shining Darkness and Moonlit Pursuit. Its LV.X variant, along with those of Dialga and Palkia, were delayed from Shining Darkness; however, Cresselia LV.X was released as part of Moonlit Pursuit. Great Encounters is also the first English-language set to include more than three Pokémon LV.X.
