The Gracidea (Japanese: グラシデアのはな Gracidea Flower) is a key item introduced in Pokémon Platinum that changes Shaymin between its Land and Sky Formes. The flower is native to Gracidea, hence its name. Of note is that the flowers on Shaymin's head also resemble Gracideas.

The Gracidea can be received in Pokémon Platinum during the player's first or subsequent trips to Floaroma Town, although the player's party must contain a Shaymin received from a Nintendo event or one caught by the player by unlocking Oak's Letter via Mystery Gift; however, Shaymin's Sky Forme will change back into its Land Forme during the night, while frozen solid, or if it is deposited in the PC. In some places, people give bouquets of these flowers that resemble Shaymin to thank someone. This comes from Shaymin's category, Gratitude.

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the Gracidea is obtained at the Goldenrod City flower shop. The same conditions from Pokémon Platinum must be met and Shaymin must also be at the front of the party (i.e., following the player).

In Pokémon Black and White, if a fateful encounter Shaymin is shown to a woman in Lacunosa Town's Pokémon Center, she will give the Gracidea to the player.

In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, the Gracidea is obtained from a woman in Striaton City's Pokémon Center. The same conditions from Pokémon Black and White must be met.

In Pokémon X and Y, Gracideas are featured in one of the paintings on display at the Lumiose Museum. A female NPC located at the Snowbelle City Pokémon Center will share one of her Gracideas with the player if she is shown a Shaymin.

In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, the Berry Master's son in his family's house on Route 123 will give the player a Gracidea if the player has a Shaymin.

In the side series games

The Gracidea appears as a toy in the Japanese version of My Pokémon Ranch, after receiving the Platinum update. As in the handhelds, it is used to change Shaymin between its Land and Sky Formes. It only appears if the player has the Gracidea on their Platinum cart.

As this update is unavailable outside of Japan, the Gracidea cannot be obtained by international players of My Pokémon Ranch.

In spin-off games

In the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series

In Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky, a Gracidea can be obtained once per day from one of the citizens of Shaymin Village after the player recruits one of them. The Gracidea can only be used in a dungeon, and upon leaving the dungeon, Shaymin reverts to its Land Forme. A bow resembling a Gracidea also appears on the Sky Gifts found in Sky Peak.

In the Pokémon Ranger series

A field of Gracideas is found in Latolato Trail in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. In a Special Mission involving Shaymin, the flowers in the field is used by Shaymin to transform.

In the PokéPark series

In PokéPark Wii: Pikachu's Adventure, Gracideas appear in the Flower Zone. It is necessary to water these Gracideas in order to make them bloom. Shaymin will then change form and guide the player to the Sky Pavilion.

In the anime

Gracidea in the anime

In the Pokémon anime, the Gracidea has the same purpose as it does in the core series Pokémon games.

Gracideas first appeared in the second Diamond & Pearl series movie, Giratina and the Sky Warrior, in which Ash, Dawn, and Brock met Layla and her husband Moose. The couple was on the way to Layla's great-grandmother's hundredth birthday party, and they wanted to give her a bouquet of Gracideas as a way to express their gratitude.

As the group was traveling with Shaymin, Layla bonded with the Gratitude Pokémon, and when Shaymin touched the bouquet, it immediately changed into its Sky Forme. Later on, Shaymin reunited with several members of its species in a field full of Gracideas. In the credits, Delia, Johanna, and Lola were seen receiving Gracidea gift baskets sent by their children.

In Strategy Begins at Home!, flowers that look similar to Gracideas were seen on Johanna's garden.

Gracideas appeared again in Keeping in Top Forme!.

In the Pokémon Adventures manga

A Gracidea first appeared in The Final Dimensional Duel IV, having being picked up by Marley from the Floaroma Meadow before arriving at Route 224 to meet up with Shaymin and ask its assistance for the final battle against Team Galactic, following the instructions in Oak's Letter. In The Final Dimensional Duel X, Shaymin used the same Gracidea to turn into its Sky Forme to fight Giratina, which was being controlled by Charon.
