The fifth generation of Pokémon, recently revealed, is the upcoming fifth installment of the Pokémon games released. Like previous generations, it will likely begin with two games, released as a pair, and later be joined by a third version. The paired games, still untitled, have been announced to have an expected release date of late 2010, and will, in an unprecedented move, be released for the Nintendo DS, the same console as Generation IV's main series games.

It is currently unknown what region the games will take place in, though the announcement heralding the release revealed that the games will explore new areas, with the hope that they will surpass Pokémon Diamond and Pearl in quality, indicating that a new region is on its way. The setting for the Generation V games is also unknown, as it may or may not be contemporaneous with any of the previous four generations.
