Fog (Japanese きり Fog) is a weather condition that has appeared as an aesthetic effect since Generation III, but has only had an effect in battle in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, as well as Pokémon Battle Revolution.

No move or ability can call fog, it only occurs naturally, and its effect is largely negative. The move Defog will remove fog in battle or in the overworld when it is used.

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum...

Reason: How much is accuracy lowered?

Since fog cannot be called, it only has in-battle effects in games where it naturally occurs.

Advantages

  • Doubles the power of Weather Ball.
    • Note that Weather Ball's type does not change, nor does Castform change form or type.

Disadvantages

Outside of battle

Fog makes the area difficult to see, especially obstacles and trainers. This effect is greatest in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum.

Since Generation IV, Sweet Scent will fail if there is fog in the area, or if any other weather condition is present.

Trivia

  • Several lines of unused quotes for fog exist within the text for Pokémon Black and White, suggesting that fog may have been planned to exist in those games.
