Location of Floccesy Town in Unova.

Floccesy Town (Japanese: サンギタウン Sangi Town) is situated in the southwestern part of the Unova region. It is home to former Champion Alder. The town used to be a grassy meadow, and was populated by people in search of Pokémon. The two eventually made homes, and started living together.

Upon entering the town, the player meets Alder, who shows the player his house.

After defeating Cheren, Bianca will upgrade the player's Pokédex to show the player what seen Pokémon can appear in the wild in a selected area. Initially only tall grass is shown, but fishing and surfing are shown later as well.

Floccesy Town in the anime

Floccesy Town appeared in Team Plasma's Pokémon Power Plot!. On the way there, Ash and his friends were attacked by a group of wild Amoonguss, which, as they soon found out, were only some of the many wild Pokémon that had attacked the town recently. Wanting to find the reason to all this, they decided to investigate an old, abandoned observatory on a nearby mountain. On the way there, they encountered Looker, who revealed that he was in Unova in order to investigate the actions of Team Plasma. Sure enough, the group soon found out that Team Plasma was behind the mysterious Pokémon rampages, it being the side effect of Colress's Pokémon controlling experiments. During the group's confrontation with Team Plasma, Team Rocket used one of their mini-drones to hack Colress's computer and steal his research data. Team Plasma promptly left the observatory and blew it up in their wake, destroying any evidence of their actions there. Afterwards, Ash and his friends continued their journey to the White Ruins, while Looker departed them to continue his investigations.

Trivia

  • Floccesy Town's Japanese motto is サンギは 易や 計算に 使う 木の棒 Sangi wa eki ya keisan ni tsukau ki no bō "Sangi are wooden rods used for divination and calculation".
  • Floccesy Town's theme resembles Relic Song's sound.

Name origin

Language Name Origin
Japanese サンギタウン Sangi Town From 算木紋 sangimon, a pattern composed of parallel horizontal bars. 算木 sangi refers to the counting rods.
English Floccesy Town From floccus, a type of cloud whose name is Latin for "a tuft of wool" (possibly referencing the Mareep in the ranch). Also similar to prophecy.
French Amaillide From hamaide, an ordinary composed of three horizontal bars, similar to how the sangi pattern is arranged. May also be a corruption of the Italian amamelide, a species of witch-hazel from which the twigs are used as divining rods.
German Dausing From dowsing, a type of divination where rods are used for locating objects or materials. Also from Daus (ace) and -ing (town name suffix).
Italian Venturia From vento (wind), fattoria (farm), ventura (luck), and possibly avventura (adventure).
Spanish Pueblo Ocre From ocre, ochre clay.
Korean 산가지마을 Sangaji Maeul From 산가지 sangaji, counting rods.
Chinese (Mandarin) 算木鎮 Suànmù Zhèn From 算木 sangi.
