Flaaffy (Japanese: モココ Mokoko) is an Electric-type Pokémon.

It evolves from Mareep starting at level 15 and evolves into Ampharos starting at level 30.

Biology

Physiology

Flaaffy looks much like its pre-evolution, except it is now able to walk on its hind legs and its feet appear to have a single clawed toe. Its skin is now almost entirely pink and most of the wool appears to have disappeared, so it now resembles a partially shaven pink-skinned lamb or sheep. The remains of its wool are now white and are situated on its head and around its collar. It has small stubby arms and it has a black and pink striped pattern on its horns and tail, and the sphere on the end of its tail is now blue instead of orange.

Gender differences

None.

Special abilities

Flaaffy's wool is similar to Mareep's in that it stores electricity. However, Flaaffy's wool is much more efficient, so that it can store more electricity than Mareep despite having less wool on its body. They also have rubbery skin to prevent themselves from being electrocuted. Unlike Mareep, Flaaffy are able to stand on their hind legs and are able to use their forelimbs to manipulate things or deliver blows.

Behavior

These Pokémon are usually mild-mannered and gentle.

Habitat

One is most likely to find Flaaffy in grassy meadows and fields.

Trivia

Origin

Flaaffy is based on a sheep that has had some of its wool sheared off. Its electrical aspect and Ability come from how wool builds up static charges. It, its evolution, and its pre-evolution, may also have been based on the title of the science fiction novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

Name origin

Flaaffy may be a combination of fluffy and baa (sound a sheep makes). It may also incorporate laugh, considering its playful nature. Aa may also be a reference to a double-A battery, given Flaaffy's typing. Alternately, it my be a combination of fluffy and taffy (an informal nickname for Welsh people, who are often stereotypically associated with sheep).

Mokoko may derive from 羊毛 yōmō (wool) and a corruption of もこもこ mokomoko (fluffy).
