The Fire type (Japanese: ほのおタイプ Flame type) is one of the eighteen types. Notable Trainers who specialize in Fire-type Pokémon include Blaine of Cinnabar Island, Flannery of Lavaridge Town, Flint of the Sinnoh Elite Four, Chili, the former Gym Leader of Striaton City, and Malva of the Kalos Elite Four. Prior to changes in Generation IV, all Fire-type moves were special, but they may now also be physical depending on the attack.
The Fire type (Japanese: ほのおタイプ Flame type) is one of the eighteen types. Fire-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Grass-, Ice-, and Steel Pokémon, while Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-, Rock-, and Water moves.

Characteristics
Additional effects
Defense
In Generation I, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get inflicted by the burn status condition by Fire-type moves. In Generation II, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get burned by Fire-type moves, but can get burned by the Normal move Tri Attack. Starting in Generation III, Fire-type Pokémon are completely immune to getting burned by any means. Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to the sea of fire caused by Grass Pledge and Fire Pledge, both introduced in Generation V.
The Fire type has its pros and cons defensively. Ground, Rock, and Water moves are all commonly used offensively. Aside from Fairy, Ice, and the Fire type itself, the Fire type's resistances are of little use because the other types which it resists are typically not strong offensively. Most Fire-type Pokémon do not survive too long in battle due to their typically below average defensive stats. Additionally, all Reshiram Volcanion Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Water-type attacks.

However, not only does the Fire type have six resistances, among them being key resistances to the powerful Ice and Fairy types, but it is also immune to burns, making Pokémon of this type key physical attackers. Also, most Fire types can at least learn Solar Beam to counter all three of the type's weaknesses, although it is not reliable outside of intense sunlight due to its need to charge.
During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II) or Desolate Land (introduced in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Fire-type moves is increased by 50%. During rain (introduced in Generation II), the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 50%. During Primordial Sea (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Fire-type moves will fail. When the move Water Sport (introduced in Generation III) is in effect, the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 67%.

Offense
If a Pokémon affected by the move Powder (introduced in Generation VI) attempts to use a Fire-type move, they take damage equal to 25% of their maximum HP and cannot execute the move (PP is still consumed).
Offensively, Fire is very powerful as it is super effective against four types, tying it in amount with Ice and Rock. The ability to deal Damage modification damage against Steel Pokémon is very useful for Pokémon that specialize in special moves, as many Steel-type Pokémon typically have high Defense but a low Special Defense.

Although Fire types often have below average defensive stats, they often have good Speed and high Attack or Special Attack stats, making them great offensive sweepers. Fire types also possess higher offensive stats compared to Ice and Rock types. Also, Fire-type moves are generally powerful, with around half of the type's damaging moves having 100 or more base power.
Only Fire-type Pokémon can use the move Burn Up (introduced in Generation VII), after which the user will no longer be Fire-type.

During intense sunlight or extremely intense sunlight, the power of Fire-type attacks is increased by 50%. The power of Fire-type attacks is decreased by 50% during rain, while all Fire-type moves will fail during heavy rain.
Pokémon
As of Generation IX, Pokémon or % of all Pokémon are Fire-type (counting those that are Fire-type in at least one of their forms, including Primal Reversion and regional forms), causing it to tie with Poison as the 8th most common type among Pokémon after Bug and before Dark and Fighting.
Contest properties
In Contests, Fire-type moves are typically Beautiful moves. None of them are considered Cute moves.

Pokémon
The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. have had their types changed.
As of Generation VI, there are 60 Fire-type Pokémon or 8.3% of all Pokémon (counting forms and Mega Evolutions that change typing as different Pokémon), making it the 8th most common type.

Interacting with Fire-type
Interacting with the Fire type
When it is sunny, Forecast will transform the user into Fire-type. User of Color Change will be changed into Fire-type after it is hit with a Fire-type move. Protean will change its user into Fire-type when it uses a Fire-type move. When a Pokémon with Multitype holds a Flame Plate, it will become a Fire-type Pokémon. When a Pokémon with Imposter is sent out and its opposite opponent is Fire-type, it will transform into that Pokémon and turn into Fire-type.
A Pokémon with Protean or Libero will become a Fire-type Pokémon if it uses a Fire-type move. A Pokémon with Color Change, Imposter, Forecast, RKS System, or Multitype will become a Fire-type Pokémon if (respectively) it is hit with a Fire-type move, is sent out against a Fire-type opponent, if the weather is sunny, if it is holding a Fire Memory, or if it is holding a Flame Plate or Firium Z.

Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to becoming burned from the Abilities Flame Body or Synchronize.

In the TCG
Fire (TCG)
Similar to the games, Fire-type Pokémon in the TCG are generally weak to Water with no resistances. Fire-type Pokémon are strong against Grass and Metal Pokémon, whilst some Colorless Pokémon can resist this type.

The Fire type (Japanese: ほのおタイプ Flame type) is one of the eighteen types. Fire-type moves are super effective against Bug-, Grass-, Ice-, and Steel-type Pokémon, while Fire-type Pokémon are weak to Ground-, Rock-, and Water-type moves.

Battle properties

Note: Type effectiveness multipliers may vary in other games outside the core series.

Additional effects

In Generation I, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get inflicted by the burn status condition by Fire-type moves. In Generation II, Fire-type Pokémon cannot get burned by Fire-type moves, but can get burned by the Normal-type move Tri Attack. Starting in Generation III, Fire-type Pokémon are completely immune to getting burned by any means. Fire-type Pokémon are also immune to the sea of fire caused by Grass Pledge and Fire Pledge, both introduced in Generation V.

During harsh sunlight (introduced in Generation II) or extremely harsh sunlight (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), the power of Fire-type moves is increased by 50%. During rain (introduced in Generation II), the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 50%. During heavy rain (introduced in Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire), all Fire-type moves will fail. When the move Water Sport (introduced in Generation III) is in effect, the power of Fire-type moves is decreased by 67%.

If a Pokémon affected by the move Powder (introduced in Generation VI) attempts to use a Fire-type move, they take damage equal to 25% of their maximum HP and cannot execute the move (PP is still consumed).

Only Fire-type Pokémon can use the move Burn Up (introduced in Generation VII), after which the user will no longer be Fire-type.

Pokémon

As of Generation IX, 87 Pokémon or 8.49% of all Pokémon are Fire-type (counting those that are Fire-type in at least one of their forms, including Primal Reversion and regional forms), causing it to tie with Poison as the 8th most common type among Pokémon after Bug and before Dark and Fighting.

The Pokémon below are listed by their current types. Some Pokémon have had their types changed.

Trivia

  • Generation V introduced the most Fire-type Pokémon of any generation, with 17 (including Heat Rotom and Zen Mode Darmanitan), and Generation IV introduced the fewest, with five.
  • Generation V introduced the most Fire-type moves of any generation, with 11, and Generation VI introduced the fewest, with only one, Mystical Fire.
    • The Fire type, tied with the Dragon type, also has the fewest number of non-damaging moves out of all of the types, with only three.
  • Fire was the last type to receive a Pokémon with Water as the other type, only receiving one with Volcanion in Generation VI.
  • In Pokémon Diamond and Pearl, there are only two evolutionary lines of Fire-type Pokémon in the Sinnoh Pokédex (the Chimchar and Ponyta evolutionary lines). In Pokémon Platinum, this was changed with the expansion of the Sinnoh Pokédex to include the Houndour and Magmar families, as well as Flareon.
  • In most core series Pokémon games since Generation III, the Fire type has been represented by the color orange. However, in other Pokémon media, including the Pokémon Trading Card Game, the Pokémon Stadium series, and the Pokémon Mystery Dungeon series, the Fire type has been associated with the color red. The Fire type is also associated with the color red in Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.
    • Also, the Cool condition uses the same shade of orange in its status screen icon as the Fire type's icon does, despite being described as red in-text.
  • According to the Pokédex, the hottest Pokémon are Magcargo and Camerupt, both of which can reach internal temperatures of 18,000 °F (10,000 °C). Incidentally, both Pokémon can also have the Ability Magma Armor.
  • Similar to Ice-type moves, all Fire-type moves were Beautiful moves in Generation III.
  • Generation II is the only generation to have not introduced a Fire-type specialist.
  • The Fire type is able to deal the highest type-based multiplier. This is possible in harsh sunlight against a dual-type, non-Grass-type Pokémon with Fluffy whose both types are weak to Fire-type attacks, and that has been affected by Forest's Curse and Tar Shot. This would result in a 48× multiplier.
    • The effects of Flash Fire and Blaze can further boost this to a 72× power multiplier.
    • It can also achieve the lowest non-zero type-based multiplier. This is possible in rain against a dual-type Pokémon whose both types resist Fire-type attacks, with Thick Fat, Heatproof, or Water Bubble while Water Sport is in effect. This would result in a 0.02065× (~1/48) multiplier.
  • In every Egg Group containing a Fire-type Pokémon, there are at least two Fire-type evolutionary lines. Fire is the only type with this distinction.
  • The Fire-type has been paired with every type except Fairy.
    • This makes it the only first partner Pokémon type not to have been paired with every other type at least once.
  • The Fire type is the only type without a Pokémon in the Water 1 Egg Group.
