(Japanese: テッシード Tesshido) is a dual-type Grass/Steel Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves into Nattorei starting at level 40.

Biology

Physiology

Tesshido is similar in appearance to a durian. Both are spherical "plants" that have many thorns around their bodies that are used for protection. Tesshido have metallic bodies with band-like stripes and green thorns. They also have two small yellow eyes with black pupils.

Special abilities

It uses moves to increase its defenses, such as Curse and Iron Defense, as well as supporting moves such as Ingrain, Leech Seed, Spikes, and Stealth Rock. Its spherical shape allows it to execute moves such as Gyro Ball and Rollout, and it can also use Explosion.

Trivia

• No other Pokémon have the same type combination as Tesshido and its evolved form.
• Tesshido is both the slowest Template:Type2 Pokémon and the slowest Template:Type2 Pokémon.
• Despite not having any claws or appendages for that matter, Tesshido can learn Metal Claw by leveling up.
• Despite being part Grass-type, it cannot learn any damaging Grass-type moves by level up.

Origin

Tesshido may be based on durians or conkers, seeds from horse-chestnut trees, both of which are known for their tough skin and thorns. It may also be based on a mace or flail.

Name origin

Its name is likely a combination of 鉄 tetsu, iron, and シード shīdo, seed.
