Exit is the final selection in the menu accessed by pressing the Start button (or the X button from Generation IV onward, though the options can be adjusted to allow Start to bring up the menu as well) in all handheld main series Pokémon games, as well as Colosseum and XD.  The Exit command is always the last selection to appear on the menu, regardless of the game.

Exit (Japanese: とじる close) was the final entry in the menu of the core series games up to Platinum, as well as of Colosseum and XD: Gale of Darkness.

It was removed in HeartGold and SoulSilver and later games due to its redundancy since the menu can be closed by pressing the START, X, or B buttons.
When selected, quite simply, Exit closes the menu.  However, the fact that pressing the B button also achieves this makes the Exit command rather redundant.  It can also be closed by pressing Start.

Exit has the same function in , and is portrayed as an reddish circular arrow.  The menu can also now be closed by pressing X instead of Start (however, through tinkering with the options, it is still possible to allow the Start button to open and close the menu).

In , the Exit command will more than likely be absent from the menu that is accessible via the touch screen at all times, not unlike the Pokétch in . However, the menu will also still be accessible through the X button, thus the Exit command will probably still be there.

Trivia
it:Uscita
*The Exit command is the only command on the menu whose purpose can be served by a means other than actually selecting the command and pressing A.  In other words, the Exit command is the only command on the menu that is completely useless.
*The Exit command is one of the few commands to always be present on the menu from the very beginning of the game, along with Bag, Trainer, Save, and Options.

The Exit option at the bottom of the menu in Platinum

Exit (Japanese: とじる close) was the final entry in the menu of the core series games up to Pokémon Platinum, as well as of Pokémon Colosseum and Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness.

It was removed in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver and later games due to its redundancy since the menu can be closed by pressing the START, X, or B buttons.
